With the advent of spring, Namakwaland (Namaqualand) sheds its mantle of a harsh and arid country side and comes alive, and, like a hallucinating Van Gogh, runs riot with brilliant tones of colour covering vast tracts of the desert’s canvas with a mind boggling kaleidoscope of floral fantasy. This may include the world acclaimed international wild flower show at Clanwilliam, if you are fortunate enough to book your trip the first week in August. You will also have the opportunity to visit an original Griqua “reservation”, where the descendants of this ancient people will mesmerize you with their culture, history and cuisine.

Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Cape Town to Van Rhynsdorp
Leave Cape Town at 08h00 for Van Rhynsdorp, with regular stops and lunch en route. Arrive in Van Rhynsdorp between 14h00 and 15h00. As from Clanwilliam, the semi-desert transforms into a floral profusion of different hues. First stop will be the local tourist office and the local museum in Van Rhynsdorp (filled with 18th and 19th century memorabilia and rock collections). Thereafter, you will proceed to a Griqua “reservation” for supper.
Overnight: A Griqua Reservation
Day 2: Van Rhynsdorp
You will spend the day exploring the Griqua “reservation”, taking in the culture and history of the Griqua people, as well as the flowers and the geography of the country side. The evening will be spent enjoying the local cuisine and relaxing to the rhythms of indigenous entertainment.
Overnight: A Griqua Reservation
Day 3: Van Rhynsdorp to Clanwilliam
Leave Van Rhynsdorp at 08h00 for Clanwilliam., here you will visit the international flower show, the Rooibos Tea Farm and San rock paintings.
Overnight: Guest House in Clanwilliam
Day 4: Clanwilliam to Cape Town
Completion of itinerary in Clanwilliam, leave after lunch for Cape Town.
