Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Cape Town to Stellenbosch
After arrival at Cape Town airport, transfer to the heart of the Cape Winelands, for a 2 night stay in the tranquil surroundings of vineyards, mountains, and valleys. After settling in, “pitch” straight into it as golf is right outside the “front door” on the well manicured, and recently upgraded De Zalze Golf Club course. Winding it’s way through vineyards, and a working wine farm, this course is an ideal start to the African experience.

Overnight: De Zalze, Stellenbosch

Day 2: Stellenbosch
Wander “next door”, and enjoy the well established tree lined fairways of Stellenbosch Golf Club, a previous host to the SA Open, and a reasonably “friendly” layout once the illusion of narrow fairways wears off. Maybe spend the rest of the afternoon on one of the nearby beaches at either Gordons Bay, or the Strand.

Overnight: De Zalze, Stellenbosch

Day 3: Stellenbosch to Knysna
Leave for the scenically beautiful Garden Route, travelling via historic Swellendam, and the rolling farmland areas of the Overberg to Mossel Bay where the Portuguese influence in the early development of South Africa can be experienced. Continue on the nearby Lakes Wilderness area en route to the casual atmosphere of Knysna, and it‘s unique natural environment, pleasantly positioned on South Africa’s second largest estuary.

Overnight: Graywood Hotel, Knysna

Day 4: Knysna
A morning 18 holes at the user friendly layout of Knysna Golf Club is an ideal tonic before maybe exploring the quaint town centre, and mini Waterfront areas. If the round wasn’t that good, and it doesn’t get easier than this course, then perhaps a tour and tasting of the nearby Mitchells Brewery might be in order ?!

Overnight: Graywood Hotel, Knysna

Day 5: Knysna
Travel through to the trendy holiday playground of Plettenberg Bay Golf Club, and an assault on the picturesque hillside course overlooking the Bay. Spend the remainder of the afternoon meandering through the tranquil area of Natures Valley, via the natural African rain forest region of the Groot and Bloukrans River gorges. If the morning “round” was that bad, the opportunity can be provided to throw oneself off the highest bungi jump in the world (170 metres) at Bloukrans River bridge !

Overnight: Graywood Hotel, Knysna

Day 6: Knysna to Montagu
Travel over the Outeniqua Mountains to Outdshoorn where optional visits can be made to the well known Cango Caves, as well as lunch on an Ostrich farm. This provides the opportunity to ride one of the local “beasts” if the experience seems preferable to yet another 18 holes of purgatory ! The afternoon is spent casually travelling through the different environment of the Little Karoo to the charming town of Montagu, and a relaxing 2 nights at the natural hot water resort of Avalon Springs. Very therapuetic, and an ideal opportunity to “oil the swing”.

Overnight: Avalon Springs, Montagu

Day 7: Montagu
Take the complete day for leisure activities, either strolling through the mountain gorge, soaking away the aches and pains in the hot water springs, honing the putting skills on the “crazy putting” circuit, visiting some of the local wineries, or taking a relaxing cruise on the nearby Berg River . For the masochists, particularly if it’s hot, play an optional round of golf at the nearby Montagu Golf Club

Overnight: Avalon Springs, Montagu

Day 8: Montagu to Cape Town
After leaving the Springs, enjoy a morning round at the extremely picturesque Robertson Golf Club. This little course, recently extended to 18 holes, for many years had the deserved reputation of being the best “9 holer” in South Africa. The remainder of the day is spent travelling through the various wine and fruit growing regions of the Breede River Valley, en route to the spectacular DuToits Kloof Pass, and the first sight of Table Mountain, and the “Mother City”, Cape Town.

Overnight: City Lodge V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

Day 9: Cape Town
Just “up the road” - play the only “Links” course in South Africa at Milnerton Golf Club, set in a beautiful location on the shores of Table Bay with Table Mountain and the ocean constant backdrops, which is enough to take the mind off any round that is not quite up to scratch. This is a course where when the wind blows even the seagulls walk down the fairways ! Take the quick road around the Bay to the city, and explore the ever popular V&A Waterfront area, complete with restaurants, Pubs, retail shopping area, and working harbour.

Overnight: City Lodge V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

Day 10: Cape Town
Day at leisure in and around Cape Town, to explore and / or do whatever one would like, even if it is just nothing. An ideal opportunity to ascend Table Mountain by aerial cableway, and get the real “birds eye view” of the city, and surrounding peninsula. Visit the historical naval base of Simonstown, en route to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, and the spectacular view points at Cape Point. Return via the very impressive Chapmans Peak coastal drive, and the fishing harbour of Hout Bay.

Overnight: City Lodge V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

Day 11: Cape Town
Play a morning round at Mowbray Golf Club, a mature parkland course that has hosted the SA Open on numerous occasions, and according to Gary Player possesses one of the top 10 most picturesque par 3’s in the world !

Overnight: City Lodge V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

Day 12: Cape Town to Cape Town International Airport or Sun City
The final day is options day. Either a final 18 holes at a course of your choice, or perhaps a visit to the ex prison island of Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela and a good many of his parliamentary colleagues were incarcerated for so many years. Take the remainder of the afternoon for that last minute shopping, or golf lesson (!), before starting the phsyching up process to either make the re-adjustment “out of Africa”, and transferring to Cape Town Airport for return flight home, OR take the internal flight to JHB, and commencement of the OPTIONAL Sun City extension. If taking this option, on arrival at JHB airport, transfer to Sun City complex.

Overnight: Cascades Hotel, Sun City

Day 13: Sun City
Tackle the challenging Gary Player Country Club course, home to the “Million Dollar Challenge”, and gain practical insight into just how difficult it is for the Pro’s to earn that type of money. The afternoon is free to relax, even if it is on the driving range, and the evening can be spent in the casino attempting to recoup any betting losses suffered at the hands of the mornings “ringers” !

Overnight: Cascades Hotel, Sun City

Day 14: Sun City
In the morning play the different Lost City course complete with real live crocodiles on one of the par 3’s, where retrieving errant golf balls is not a recommended practice ! Remainder of time to enjoy the facilities of the Sun City complex, and maybe take the opportunity for a Game Drive into the nearby Pilansberg Game Reserve.

Overnight: Cascades Hotel, Sun City

Day 15: Sun City to Johannesburg International Airport
Transfer to Johannesburg International airport for either international return flight home, or, internal flight to Cape Town, and commencement of the core schedule.
