This 9-day tailor-made itinerary starting Port Elizabeth and ending Cape Town is structured as a “self drive” tour and includes a visit to the Addo Elephant Park, touring along the Garden Route to George and from there along Route R62 to the Winelands and Cape Town. As all our itineraries are tailor-made, this tour can be extended to include other parts of the country as well. The tour can also be done the other way round.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airport to Addo Elephant Park
We meet you arriving at Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airport to discuss the tour itinerary/travel detail and hand you the necessary travel vouchers. Assuming an early arrival board a mid-day flight to Port Elizabeth. On arrival, collect a pre-booked vehicle and travel to the Addo Elephant Park where you spend the night. Addo is situated about an hour from Port Elizabeth.
Overnight: Self-catering accommodation - all meals for your account. There is a restaurant in the Park

Day 2: Addo Elephant Park to Knysna
Spend the morning doing self-drive game viewing before departing to Knysna. En-route stop at the scenic Storm’s River situated in the Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park. Knysna - nowadays one of the most sought after holiday towns on the Garden Route - is situated on a lake with a rocky entrance to the sea called “The Heads”. Check-in at a Guest Lodge/House where you spend two nights.
Overnight: B&B accommodation.

Day 3: Knysna to Knysna.
Spend another day sightseeing in and around Knysna and visiting the lovely beaches at the closely situated Plettenberg Bay and Brenton-on-Sea. Also included is a late afternoon 90-minute “John Benn mid-day Cruise” on the Knysna lagoon.
Overnight: B&B accommodation.

Day 4: Knysna to Oudtshoorn
Check-out after breakfast for a leisurely drive along the scenic route to Oudtshoorn - the “Ostrich feather capital” of South Africa. The route followed is via Sedgefield, Wilderness on the coastline, George, up the Outeniqua Pass, De Rust, Meiringspoort Pass, Prince Albert and down the very scenic Swartberg Pass. Should you be interested, you can also visit the world renowned Cango Caves and one of the ostrich farms. Spend the night in a lovely cottage on a working farm in the Klein Karoo near Calitzdorp. Staying here is an experience to be remembered! B&B accommodation. The farm owner prepares delicious ostrich and beef fillet or chicken and vegetarian kebabs that you can grill (“braai”) on the verandah of your cottage as a dinner special. Doing this under a star-filled African sky is something well appreciated by all.

Day 5: Oudtshoorn to Franschhoek
Continue your tour to the historic town of Franschhoek. The route followed to Franschhoek is the R62 - a lesser known, but far more scenic route than the N2 route usually traveled. Franschhoek has a rich cultural and historical heritage and its tradition of viniculture dates back to 1688 when some 200 French Huguenots were apportioned land in the district. In addition to the many lovely wine estates, the town has many fine and award winning restaurants to choose from for a great dining experience. Spend the night at one of the many lovely Guest Lodges/Houses.

Day 6: Franschhoek to Cape Town
En-route to Cape Town spend the day doing a relaxed self-drive tour of the Cape Winelands stopping at some of the numerous wine estates in and around Franschhoek, Paarl and Stellenbosch. Arriving Cape Town check-in at one of the lovely self-catering 1, 2 or 3-bedroom apartments situated on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront that we often use. Here you will spend the last three nights of your tour.
Overnight: Self-catering accommodation - there are a wide variety of excellent restaurants at the V&A Waterfront

Day 7: Cape Town
Spend the day doing the Table Mountain cableway trip (weather depending), a drive-through city tour visiting the Company Gardens, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and the many other sightseeing spots of which we will inform you. Should you prefer, guided sightseeing tours can be arranged while you are in Cape Town. Although more expensive than “self-drive” you will save on car rental cost.

Day 8: Cape Town
Spend the day doing a Cape Peninsula sightseeing tour by visiting Clifton, Camps Bay, Hout Bay where you can do a boat trip to Seal Island, driving along the scenic Chapmans Peak Route, visit Cape Point Nature Reserve – the mythical meeting point of the two oceans, Simon’s Town and the Boulders Penguin Colony.
Overnight: Self-catering accommodation - there are a wide variety of excellent restaurants at the V&A Waterfront

Day 9: Cape Town V&A Waterfront to Cape Town International Airport
Do some last minute shopping at the V&A Waterfront, return the vehicle to Budget Car Rental at Cape Town International Airport, check-in and board your flight.
