This is the seventh occasion that the unique Kirstenbosch Biennale, focuses on indigenous plants to southern Africa and plays a pivotal role in show casing botanical art.
The exhibition promotes the sustainable use, conservation, appreciation and enjoyment of the exceptionally rich biodiversity of South Africa, for the benefit of all through the medium of art. The show attracts some of the best botanical artists locally and internationally. It provides a platform for the best examples of botanical art to be viewed and reviewed. Individual artist's contributions, innovations and unique contributions to botanical art can be assessed, acknowledged and accoladed, through the awarding of medals by a specialist judging panel.
The prize giving ceremony is a buzzing glamorous affair attended by many of the artists, collectors and scientists.
Collectors have the chance to snap up some of the best contemporary examples of the ever increasingly popular art form at very fair prices.
The Kirstenbosch Biennale opens on 5 September and runs until 24 September 2010. It is held at the Old Mutual Conference Centre at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, and is proudly supported by Old Mutual.
Entry to the show is free as are the walkabouts that will be conducted by famous artists and critics. There will also be a series of fascinating lectures about various aspects of botanical art. The show is running concurrent to two exciting workshops by very distinguished artists Gill Condy and Di Charmichael. So no one has an excuse to now get inspired this coming spring.
