Umhlanga Summer Carnival in Umhlanga

From 15 to 24 December, starting at 10am daily at the millennium stage, Main beach, loads of games, competitions, prizes and more will be on offer. And as a special treat, the 2008 beach entertainment will be hosted by local talent, Jo Rowlands. Jo, a masterful entertainer who interacts easily with people, will invite kids to show off their many talents, from acting, to singing, dancing and, well, just about anything! Having acted professionally since the age of nine, and having sung professionally since 18, Jo is extremely talented herself and is looking forward to the festival. "We are going to be putting on a whole lot of fun events for kids, from throwing eggs, to musical statues, to buried treasure and tons more."

Jo moved from Cape Town to Durban fairly recently and is also looking forward to settling into the vibrant theatre scene here. "As far as I'm concerned," said Jo, "Durban produces the best original music." What a compliment from someone who is acquainted with so many aspects of the arts. Entertainment avenues in which Jo is involved include acting, sourcing musicians for functions through her own company, writing her own music, and performing her greatest love - Jazz and Blues.
