Uprising Festival

Where: Durban
Categories: Entertainment / Music Festivals

The Story behind The Uprising Festival is quite remarkable, founded by a couple of wayward 15 year olds back in 2000, as an initiative to give the youth some live music. The First “Festival” only had 4 bands and just over hundred people (known as Punk Uprisings). Like everything in Durban things slowly progressed, with more and more bands becoming interested in the event. The organisers had to start turning bands away and instead of having only 4 bands, with 1 stage there where now around 18 bands with two stages. More and more people started to pack the venues, making the festival somewhat of a legend in Durban.

The Uprising Festival has grown immensely within the last five years, in 2004 the event had over 400 people in attendance by 2005 the festival passed double that, by pulling a crowd of about 1000 excited and diverse music and extreme sports lovers and in 2006 the festival followed in the same tradition and managed to gain an even more substantial and loyal following with over 1300 people.

This year The Uprising Festival is pulling out all the stops to bring the masses of Durban an experience they will surely not forget, with over 6 years experience and with some of most diverse musical landscapes this country has to offer. Expect comedy, chaos, mayhem and pure African flavor, all day madness with Durban’s finest musical players mixing it up with the heavy weights of South African underground Music.

Doors open at 11 am and the event runs through till midnight, ticket prices will be R80 pre-sale and R100 at the door.
