Umzimkulu Giant Cabin is set on a picturesque bend of the Umzimkulu River in Underberg and surrounded by the foothills of the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park World Heritage Site. Umzimkulu River Lodge is just two hours from Durban and six hours from Johannesburg.

Self Catering Accommodation

Umzimkulu Giant Cabin is a secluded log holiday home in Underberg sleeping 12 guests. There are two en-suite bedrooms furnished with double beds. The main en suite is fitted with a ball and claw bath from which you can overlook Thrombosis gorge, as well as a toilet and basin. The second en-suite is fitted with a shower, toilet and basin.

The additional three large rooms are furnished with twin beds and share a separate bathroom fitted with a shower, basin and toilet. There is an additional en-suite bedroom room downstairs with its own entrance.

There is a spacious open plan fully equipped kitchen, lounge and dining area. There is a TV with DVD/VHS player but no TV reception.

Outside there is a huge veranda with braai facilities perfect for large family gatherings.

Attractions and Activities

Activities include trout fishing, small Bass dam, adventure playground, animal farm, walks, birding, Quad bike trails, horse riding and river rafting nearby.

Fishermen enjoy the unrivalled opportunities to catch rainbow trout along our 2.5km stretch of the Umzimkulu. Should the river conditions be unfavorable, there is a trophy dam on our neighbouring farm available to our guests - booking essential. The rivers are open from from September to end May every year. Dams are however open for year round fishing enjoyment.

Canoes, paddles and tubes are available to our guests for hire. Tubing is a favorite summer activity. Guests are dropped off about 5km upriver and tube back to the lodge.
