It is no mean feat to be awarded the status of a Blue Flag beach. This means that the beach is superior in its cleanliness, safety, facilities, ecology, and educational value. And, along the False Bay coastline, there are only four of these beaches, one of which is the gorgeous Bikini Beach.

Although it is small, this man-made beach is situated close to the marina in the small coastal town of Gordon’s Bay, giving it added appeal to locals and tourists alike. It is popular as a swimming beach because the water is usually temperate and relatively calm. This also makes for excellent snorkelling, as the conditions are also often clear, giving visitors the opportunity to see the marine plant and animals.

The pristine white sands are the best place to enjoy a good book, or a generous dose of bronzing in the warm sunshine. Because of its locale, the beach is quite sheltered, even on relatively windy days. It is situated on a marina, and the nearby harbour is the perfect place from which to head out on a boating or fishing expedition. Regular anglers enjoy catching Garrick, shad and mullet here, all of which are delicious to eat.

Kogel Bay is very close to Bikini Beach and is a prime surfing hotspot, but is also home to some caves, which are awesome to discover and explore. Gordon’s Bay Beach and Strand Beach are both nearby too, and are both popular for families wanting the ultimate summer vacation spot.

From Bikini Beach, there are really stunning views of False Bay. But, this beach is also close to a number of shops and restaurants, and is about 45 minutes from the heart of Cape Town.
