About De Brasserie

On the eastern edge of False Bay, where the Hottentots Holland Mountains tumble towards the Atlantic Ocean, lies the Belgian charm and elegance of De Brasserie, which adds just a touch of colour and quirkiness to its décor. This Strand-based restaurant is about 50 kilometres from Cape Town, and offers a place where excellent cuisine is savoured against the idyllic backdrop of ocean views and a warm South African welcome.

What was once an apple farm is now the beautiful De Brasserie restaurant, which includes a winery and wine-tasting section with exquisite architecture. The décor is defined by modern black and white floor tiles, dark bistro fittings, marble counters and ornate light fittings for that added air of drama.

Starters include traditional Italian-style croquettes, mussels in creamy garlic and white wine sauce, prawn tempura, beetroot carpaccio, steak tartare, salmon gravlax, and fresh oysters. There are also several salads from which to choose. The main courses are varied and influenced by a combination of local and European styles. Try the bouillabaisse, Malabo prawns, kingklip (grilled or á l’Orange), AAA-grade steaks (fillet, sirloin or rump), Norwegian salmon with a mustard cream sauce or a Béarnaise, scampi, or the tender crayfish in coriander butter. For something a little different, the Belgian-style rabbit is a must. Of course, no decadent meal is complete without something sweet to delight the palate, and there are a number of choices for patrons with a sweet tooth. These are best enjoyed with a gourmet coffee.

The de Brasserie bistro menu is simply irresistible, and is ideal for diners wanting to snack. Oysters, chicken liver pâté, mushrooms on toast, grilled or tempura calamari, and the bistro platter make for a tough (albeit welcome) choice for patrons.

This is wine country, and the Cape Winelands are on the restaurant’s doorstep. So, in addition to their own Almenkerk and Lace ranges, De Brasserie offers many other South African greats, which -range from simple, drinkable wines to world-renowned labels from neighbouring wine farms. In addition, there are spirits, liqueurs, beers and soft drinks on the menu.

De Brasserie promises a top-notch wining and dining experience within the unrivalled loveliness of the Western Cape of South Africa.
