Don’t let the name of the Crocodile River put you off exploring its exciting waters. This river, which winds its way through various South African provinces, is thrilling to see for its scale and beauty; and is even better to explore in inflatable rafts. Paddle Power offers locals and visitors excellent opportunities to get the most out of this gorgeous natural treasure in the form of river rafting adventures.

Two people climb into a raft and paddle for five kilometres down the Crocodile River, negotiating some easy twists and turns. Along the way, you can enjoy ice lollies, a refreshing swim and, if the conditions are right, you can even choose to do the four-metre jump from a rocky outcrop into the deepest section of the river below. Look out for the gorgeous birdlife along the way, and savour the fresh mountain air.

Children over the age of seven years can enjoy this adventure (either accompanied by a guardian or by one of the guides). The life jacket and helmet are provided by Paddle Power and guests are urged to wear comfortable closed shoes that can get wet, a towel, and a dry change of clothes. Sunscreen is also essential, and a cap that can be worn under your helmet is a good idea.

The guides are well trained and have loads of experience. They will know best if conditions allow the rock jump and where the best swimming spots are. Transport to the river is provided and the entire adventure takes about two hours from start to finish.

It is essential to book the experience in advance to avoid disappointment.

Paddle Power is located in Broederstroom, which is just over an hour’s drive from Johannesburg and the OR Tambo International Airport. This little town enjoys its prime spot in the foothills of the majestic Magaliesberg Mountain Range. The countryside is beautifully dramatic, making for the perfect backdrop to this adventure, which is ideal for team-building or family days.
