About Port Nolloth Beach

If you’ve booked accommodation in Port Nolloth, chances are that you are looking for the ultimate seaside escape. Here, the changing of the tide and the sweep of the sun across the sky may be your only time-keepers; and the stresses of city living can be left far behind. This little fishing village has pristine beaches that are right on the doorsteps of the guest houses, shops and restaurants.

The Grazia be Beer Beach is a sandy beach that is one of the little town’s most popular in terms of swimming, exploring and having family fun in the sunshine. It is about two kilometres long and offers warm stretches of inviting sand, relatively small waves (great for casual surfers to try their stuff), and rock pools that hold the promise of plenty of exciting marine discoveries. From here, there is a rocky stretch of coastline that also extends for some two kilometres, flanked by a boardwalk. Stroll the full length of this boardwalk, watch the waves crash, and meet some of the friendly locals that call this beautiful spot home. MacDougall’s Bay is a few kilometres from the main beaches of Port Nolloth and has been awarded the coveted Blue Flag status. This means that it is safe for swimming, eco-friendly, contributes towards education, and has convenient amenities.

The rest of the coastline flanking the main beaches of Port Nolloth comprise mile after mile of quiet, pristine beaches. Here, families can enjoy a real escape from the “real world” with beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see, the cool waters of the Atlantic, and the song of a few resident gulls.

There are big reefs in front of most of Port Nolloth’s beaches. These are home to some stunning marine life, which is a delight to explore with your snorkel and goggles. You can even collect some fresh mussels for the pot here. What’s more, the reef means that the waves don’t get very big, for the most part. Fishing can be done from the shore or the rocks, but is more popular and productive from the little boats that go out to sea.

Port Nolloth is part of the breath-taking Namaqua Flower Route and is about 2.5 hours from the ǀAi-ǀAis/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park.
