Modderfontein Reserve Parkrun is a free weekly 5km timed run!

The Modderfontein Nature Reserve is a natural treasure in the heart of the urban vibe of Gauteng Province. As the second-largest privately owned nature reserve in Gauteng, it provides invaluable habitat to hundreds of bird, plant and animal species. In order to appreciate the bounty and diversity of this gorgeous area, locals and visitors are invited to participate in the weekly park run at Modderfontein.

Every Saturday morning, at 08h00, a group of people that appreciate the outdoors and want to indulge themselves in the name of health and fitness gather together at Isidleke, in the reserve itself. The run is five kilometres long and is free of charge.

Those wanting to participate need to register the first time they plan to do the event. Thereafter, they will have their barcode (which is used to measure their time each time they do the run). This means that all participants will need to bring a print-out of their barcode every time so that they are able to track their progress as they compete against their own best time.

This initiative helps to raise awareness of this beautiful nature reserve, and invites folks to be a part of its unspoilt loveliness while engaging with fellow runners and walkers. Afterwards, everyone that has the time meets at the Val Bonne Country Estate to enjoy a steaming hot cuppa or a delicious cold refreshment.
