St.Lucia - a very special slice of Africa, the greater St Lucia Wetland Park offers eco tourists some of the most diverse wildlife and outdoor experiences imaginable. For this reason it was declared a World Heritage Site in December 1999. The lake and surrounding area, as well as the wetlands surrounding it, teems with hippos, crocodiles and many other wild animals. Birds include fish eagles, hornbills, Goliath herons, paddle-billed storks, green pigeons, Loerie's (3 species), narina, trogons etc. It is probably South Africa's best bird viewing area with over 520 species having been identified here. Unspoilt beaches, on which turtles lay their eggs, stretch for many hundreds of kilometres northward. Cape Vidal offers excellent snorkelling, protected swimming and your drive through Cape Vidal takes you through a game park with hikes, viewpoints, sub-tropical forest and bush.
