Situated in the heart of the malaria free Waterberg biosphere, only 3 hours from Johannesburg International Airport and part of Big 5 Welgevonden Game Reserve. With 15 upmarket, self-contained chalets and villas positioned in the pristine bushveld; privacy and relaxation are guaranteed.

Kololo is not just 'another' safari option: the reserve offers guests the unique opportunity to be part of nature in pristine bushveld, unfettered by fences around the accommodation area. The reserve is spread over 3 000 hectares of African bush which consists of open savannah grass plains, thick bushveld, mountains and valleys. On the part of the Reserve where the lodge is located, the Big 5 is not present, which allows guests to make full use of mountain bike trails, many hiking and walking trails, or riding on horseback through this area. Through Kololo’s own gate into Welgevonden the Big 5 are yet very close by.

ACCOMMODATION


With 15 upmarket chalets and villas, privacy and relaxation are guaranteed. The restaurant and bar has two lookout decks providing unparalleled views of the bush. Mouth-watering dishes are served by the resident gourmet chef. In addition, there is a large heated swimming pool, a resident game ranger offering guests both game drives and walks, babysitting services, ADSL/Internet access, air charter flights, airport transfers. Mobile phone access is available around the reception area. Kololo welcomes people with impaired mobility: chalet Kudu is completely wheelchair friendly.

Economy Chalets
These chalets are hidden in the lush African bush. Bushbuck and impala are often seen grazing amongst these chalets early in the morning. The chalets are situated within close proximity to the swimming pool and restaurant. Each chalet has an open-plan sleeping/living area with en-suite bathroom and fully equipped kitchen

Standard Chalets
These chalets are situated on beautiful lawns, hidden in the lush African bush or overlooking the Kololo river and mountains. The chalets have an open-plan sleeping/living area with an en-suite bathroom. A fully equipped, open-plan kitchen on the veranda. The spacious veranda is ideal for those who really want to experience the African outdoors.

Chalet Oom Piet
Chalet Oom Piet is the original restored farm house, built in 1916. Sleeping 4, it has 2 spacious bedrooms, comprising of 1 double and 1 twin room with private bathrooms and separate toilets. Relax with a book or spot game from the large veranda, overlooking rolling green lawns, which lead down to the river and swimming pool. Resident antelope can be found peacefully grazing in front of the veranda, seemingly oblivious to guests seated there. Tastefully decorated, Chalet Oom Piet has its own fully equipped kitchen and living room.

Superior Villas
The Bush Villas have 3 bedrooms, one of which is located on the first floor with a balcony. All rooms have their own bathroom and a separate toilet. Two bedrooms have an outside shower. The kitchen is fully equipped, the living room has an open fire place and on the spacious outside terrace there is a barbecue built into the chimney. These Villas were built in 2009 and beautifully located on the outskirts of Kololo with a magnificent view over the mountains of Kololo and Welgevonden amidst abundant wildlife.

Deluxe Villa
Set against the Kololo mountains, these are the most luxurious of our villas. Enjoy splendid, uninterrupted views over the African plains of Welgevonden Game Reserve and spot roaming elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo and other wildlife. Beautifully furnished, both villas have large living areas with television, open plan fully equipped kitchens, terraces and barbeque facilities. Villa Kings has a private swimming pool and boma and has 3 double en-suite bedrooms. Smaller in size, Queens Villa has 2 double en-suite bedrooms, a walk around terrace and an open kitchen.

CONFERENCES & WEDDINGS


Kololo's superb restaurant facility is ideal for the smaller breakaway conference groups of up to 40. Kololo is the ideal venue for an authentic African Safari themed wedding or special event. Our restaurant is available for wedding receptions and can accommodate up to 90 guests seated in the restaurant and on the look-out decks. Full catering and bar service available.

Tholo, our conference venue, seats 90 delegates banqueting style, 130 delegates schoolroom style and 160 cinema style. The conference rate includes a white-board, notepads and pens, mints, cordials, coffee and tea. A beamer, extra whiteboard, dance floor and sound system, as well as any requisite additional conference equipment, chair covers and table cloths are available for hire.

THE GAME RESERVE


Kololo Game Reserve is home to a wide variety of both large and small antelope species, giraffe, zebra, monkeys, baboons, bushpig and warthog. Over 300 different bird species are indigenous to the area making this a birders paradise. Indigenous shrubs and trees abound and form an integral part of the food source for the animal species living in the area. 84 different species of trees are listed and many of these are identified along the walking and cycling routes of Kololo. Wild flowers and grasses cover the bushveld and over 500 species of plants have been recorded in the Waterberg plateau providing a colourful canvas for mother nature.

Kololo Game Reserve is part of Welgevonden Private Game Reserve, covering an area of 36.000 ha. In addition to the wildlife on Kololo Lodge here the Big 5 - elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard - can be spotted. Due to the close proximity these animals can also be spotted form Kololo’s restaurant.
