About Koffylaagte Game Lodge

The Karoo Heartland in the Eastern Cape is renowned for its rugged panoramic mountain ranges, wide open plains, unpretentious hospitality, quaint towns, and much desired peace and tranquility.

Against this magical backdrop, only 130km from Port Elizabeth, on the R75 mid-way to Graaff-Reinet and roughly a 90 minutes` drive from the Port Elizabeth airport you will find Koffylaagte Game Lodge. This TGCSA 4 star graded lodge is home to a wealth of wildlife

Retaining much of the character, simplicity, history and culture of the days when the early settler traders used this spot as a resting place on their travels between the coast and the interior, Koffylaagte transports you from the modern world to a simpler, more peaceful, tranquil time.

Our lodge offers both full board accommodation in our stunning safari style thatched tents and lodge rooms as well as self-catered or family accommodation in our traditional 1800s farmhouse or eco-friendly solar powered bush cabin.

Sit back and relax whilst taking in the uninterrupted vistas of the Karoo. Take a drive, a guided walk, or even a horseback trail through our game reserve then allow the cares of the world to pass you by as you take a dip in our pool or unwind in our sauna. If you’re feeling adventurous, bring your own mountain bike and attempt our mountain pass!

The 14 bedroomed accommodation capacity is spread between 5 luxuriously appointed en-suite safari tents, a hunting lodge consisting of 3 upmarket lodge rooms, 2 x two-bedroomed self-catering farmhouse units and 1 x 2 bedroomed Bush Cottage. Making our maximum sharing capacity 32 people.

These five elegantly furnished units, with their private wooden decks, offer unsurpassed game viewing, tranquility and privacy, yet are situated a mere 150m from the main lodge dwellings. These units are perfect for couples wishing to experience the serenity and beauty of the African bush, whilst experiencing absolute comfort and luxury.

The game reserve lies at the entrance to the Karoo mountain belt, located between Baviaanskloof and the Addo Elephant Park. It is home to an abundance of wildlife, including 22 species of Southern African antelope, zebra, giraffe and 2 of the big five as well as a rich variety of other land mammals. The area also boasts a large variety of bird species, water fowls, game birds and birds of prey including the majestic Marshall eagle have been spotted in the reserve.

Our magical oasis provides an ideal retreat for everyone wishing to escape the daily hustle and bustle for weekend getaways, family vacations, corporate team-building/conferences, honeymoons, weddings and functions.

There are a number of aspects that make Koffylaagte interesting! The very rich history is one. Artefacts are still found dating back centuries, like pennies from 1917 and bicycle license plates to name only 2 of many.

We have won the Lilizela Tourism award having been nominated 3 consecutive years for Best Wildlife Encounters. There is no other place on earth whereby horses graze with rhino while the domestic cat watches on a few centimetres from them intermingled with baby lambs and chickens and a porcupine that comes to eat the dogs food from inside the manager's homestead while the latest female ostrich comes to eat out of the owners plate while he enjoys his lunch outside.

The fauna, flora and unique vegetation such as the Queen of the day, the shepherd's tree and plum tree as well as the largest, oldest endangered elephant foot tree provide for a botanical paradise. These are just a few of the aspects that make Koffylaagte the magical gem that it is.

Sample Karoo hospitality at its warmest and most authentic and let us share with you our magical piece of South Africa.
