I stayed at 17 on loader twice this year and l now call it home when I am in Cape Town. The house is conveniently located, close to all the nice cafes and restaurants on a quite street at the top of a small hill but still surprisingly very quite. The icing on the cake is the roof terrace with magnificient a view of Table Mountain and the city. You can walk into town fairly easily and Waterkant is a very safe neighbourhood even at night. The staff is extremely welcoming too! Coffee lovers would be pleased to hear that unlike other guest houses or hotels you can come across in Africa they serve decent coffee in the morning. A definate fantastic value for money. Book it!

At the beginning of our South African trip we stayed a few days at 17 On Loader. We loved it! The location was great; De Waterkant is a very nice, welcoming area with lots of good cafes and restaurants. And also the guesthouse itself was a pleasant surprise; friendly staff, nicely decorated and a great breakfast. The parking at the back was also highly appreciated.
The room we booked (17C) should have had two single beds. That was, since I traveled with a (female) friend, the main reason I booked it. On arrival however, they told us they had to move around beds and we now found a rather small double bed in the room. This was a bit of a disappointment. Also, we found our room a bit small and missed an out looking window.
Overall, these minor discomforts didn't affect our wonderful time in Kaapstad and we would definitely recommend 17 On Loader to friends and family.

I love the breakfast basket in the morning, 17 On Loader is perfectly quiet and clean. Perfect location for me. Most importantly as a female traveling alone, I felt very safe.

Will be back for sure.

17 on Loader is faulous, situated in the right spot for restaurants, shops and greaat night life.
The Guest has an inviting entrance hall with lovely art work,. Would reccomend a front facing room as our room was rather hot at the back especially with no air con. The staff were fab and the breakfast in a basket a very novel idea.

Everything about this establisment was done well. The staff are very accomodating and helpful. The room was quiet, comfortable and clean. The common areas were elegantly and tastfully furnished. The morning meal service was plenitiful, fresh and delicious. The location is perfect for all, in the heart of Waterkant, close to downtown, waterfront, shopping, recreation, nightlife, hikes and all that capetown has to offer are within a very short drive or walk... I found this place to be a serene oasis in the heart of it all.

Hospitality in its most elegant form. Barbara & Dirk were extremely welcoming, interesting to talk to and efficient. Beautifully appointed rooms, attention to the finest detail, marvelous location in De Waterkant. We would return in a heartbeat.

I never thought I'd feel so comfortable or at home staying in a guesthouse but 17 on Loader has been one of my smarter accommodation choices to date. The guesthouse is stylish, affordable, has great staff, and superb location. My favourite things about the guesthouse have to be waking up to a breakfast basket outside my door and heading up to the roof terrace for breakfast or an evening drink. The view is amazing and an absolute must......

We have recently returned from a 6 night stay at 17 On Loader before going on to tour the rest of the Western Cape. We can thoroughly recommend this guest house as a great place to stay in Cape Town. Dirk and his staff (in particular Antony and Barbara) were extremely helpful. We are really missing our breakfasts in the morning sunshine on the private terrace in front of our room (17D). We appreciated the added bonus of having a secure place to leave our hire car as it was only a short walk to use the Hop On-Hop Off Bus and Railway services to see the surrounding areas without having to drive in the manic city traffic. There is also an abundance of excellent local restaurants and the V&A is only a 20 minute walk away or a short taxi ride.
