It’s been called ‘The Volcano that gave birth to a game reserve’, this park is situated on the eroded remains of a volcanic crater, said to be one of only three alkaline volcano’s in the world. It is believed the eruptions took place some 1,300 million years ago, leaving behind a unique geological structure with footprints of rare rock types.
The park also provides a wide diversity of eco-types, giving a beautiful home to more than 35 species of large mammals, especially the sought after ‘Big 5’. It has the major advantage of being within a malaria-free belt. More about this tour here: Pilanesberg Day Tour.
