As the name suggests, Brauhaus am Damm is an experience in German culture - which includes the finest beer. The micro-brewery is set in the mountains, overlooking a dam.
Brauhaus am Damm is an absolute find! We can think of little better to do with an afternoon than sampling beers and eating fine German foods that compliment their flavours.
For starters, we love the sound of the pickled herring sandwich, or the baked pretzel with farm butter; or the smoked meat and sausage salad and the salmon fishcakes. Save space for mains, because there are some mind-blowing options on the menu. The roasted eisbein with mustard mash and sauerkraut is sure to be delectable and the crispy 36hr cooked pork belly with pumpkin purée, ham hock croquettes, broccoli and onion sounds like a slice of heaven. But the beautiful food doesn’t stop there: if we had enough time, we would sample the beer-roasted half-duck, the grilled red prawns and the braised venison potjie too.
Bar snacks are also out-of-this-world: Spätzle, roasted onions with mushroom and emmental cheese; Weisswurst with sweet mustard and baked pretzel or brewers meat and cheese platter, glazed ham, smoked sausages, scotch egg, emmental cheese gherkins, cherry tomato and tartare Sauce.
Of course there’s strudel for dessert, made with candied apple and sultanas, served with vanilla custard.
