Lying in the soft farmlands of Ixopo, KwaZulu Natal, King’s Grant will host you in their large guesthouse or self-catering accommodation. We specialise as a wedding venue with a spacious Tuscan-style banqueting hall, quaint St. Isidor Chapel and enchanting honeymoon suite. King’s Grant facilities include a Conference Centre, the St. Isidor Mill Museum and a cosy, country-style restaurant.

King’s Grant facilities include the St. Isidor Conference Centre and Lounge, the St. Isidor Mill Museum, a spacious Tuscan-style banqueting hall and the quaint St. Isidor Chapel, perfect for intimate weddings or the renewal of wedding vows. King’s Grant also houses a cosy, country-style restaurant with inside and outside dining. Enjoy a magical evening of fine wine and food surrounded by rose gardens, candlelight and the warm glow of chapel lights.

King’s Grant is nestled in the valley of the St. Isidor Estate and is surrounded by lush farmlands, dams, bushveld and wetlands. The varying habitats play host to extensive wildlife and birdlife and invite you to explore their diverse beauty. The estate also boasts a number of other historical sites such as the solitary Brickfield and the magnificent architecture of the St. Mary’s Seminary.

Accommodation


The original living quarters of the German and Dutch sisters and brothers who lived here have been stylishly restored and converted into comfortable B&B and self catering accommodation. We can currently accommodate up to 27 guests. King’s Grant assures you of an intimate and cosy experience that will make you want to return.

Honeymoon Suite: The Kings Room is our luxurious honeymoon suite. Originally the monks’ lounge, this spacious rondavel is sumptuously decorated in rich tones, and boasts a free-standing bath half concealed behind romantic drapes.

Weddings


King’s Grant offers a number of authentic and picturesque ceremony and reception venues for large and small numbers. A quaint chapel stands in the heart of the venue and is ideal for small and intimate ceremonies. Experience the Tuscan style Banqueting Hall that sets a truly romantic atmosphere. The Conference Centre and lounge with its stylish African theme, originally part of the mill, is also a favourite choice as reception venue, while the spacious gardens, painted with indigenous colour, and the lake by the old red brickfield buildings provide unforgettable settings for photography.

Conferences


The St. Isidor Conference Centre and Lounge is ideal for those needing a secluded and quiet venue with minimal disturbances. It can host up to 80 delegates and has a number of breakaway venues such as the Mill Museum. King’s Grant is also ideal for small workshops that require all-inclusive accommodation. This venue that has acquired a reputation for being flexible with regards to your workshop needs. The 2200-acre estate also allows for excellent outdoor team building exercises and we encourage our guests to take full advantage of this unique country experience.

Dining


The Restaurant:
The old sister’s kitchen has been restored into a cosy restaurant and offers the guests a country-style culinary experience. Outside seating in the chapel rose garden is also available for a truly romantic evening. Guests are welcome to bring their favourite wine.

Picnics, Sundowners and Braai Sites:
Picnic Baskets, Sundowners and Braai Packs can be arranged for those wanting to expand on their outdoor experience. Sites such as the deserted Brickfield and Shriba’s Hill viewpoint make an unforgettable and picturesque experience.

On-Site Activities


Excellent Bird Viewing:
For keen birders, King’s Grant is a certified birder-friendly establishment and boasts a recorded number of over 208 different species of birdlife, including the endangered blue swallow. The dams and wetlands, bushveld, mountain sourveld and farmland provide a rich variety of habitats, which explains the large number of species.

Water Activities:
We have 3 large dams on site and offer activities such as Canadian canoeing, fishing (Bass, Barbell, and Carp) and sailing. Canadian canoes are available for hire.

Fitness:
We encourage our guests to explore the estate and offer a number of walks and mountain biking opportunities with breathtaking views and hidden estate attractions.

The Artist:
The artists paradise! Owing to the historic red brick buildings and the unique character and atmosphere, Kings Grant offers a truly visual experience that will undoubtedly excite and inspire every artist. We house a well-lit art studio and encourage our guests to bring their own equipment and materials for an enchanting art retreat.
