DESCRIPTION:
Cedarwood is a re-designed dairy offering gentle views and country charm just four kms inland off the N3, midway between Howick and Hilton.
Our furnished, self catering house has four beautifully decorated en-suite bedrooms, two of which are family rooms - comfortably sleeping ten adults and six children. We also have loft space that sleeps three but use of one of the four bathrooms is required. There is however a fifth separate toilet.
The Rooms
Main Bedroom - Queen-size bed, three single beds and an en-suite shower / bath.
Family Suite - Double bed and three single beds and an en-suite bath.
Twin Bedroom - Two single beds and an en-suite shower.
Tower Suite - Double bed and an en-suite shower.
Loft Room - Queen size bed, one single bed.
Facilities
The living room is pure olde-world rustic charm with an enormous fireplace. DsTV is available in the shared living space, which is open-plan to a fully equipped kitchen / dining room. Weber and braai facilities are available. Guests have use of the farm tennis court and pool and can enjoy beautiful country walks.

Cedarwood is on the doorstep of Midlands Meander route and ideally situated for our guests to experience the wonder of the Meander - an eclectic mix of arts and crafts, fly fishing and world class restaurants.
Howick Falls
Visit the magnificent 100m Howick Falls from the viewing platform with surrounding walks. Browse through the exciting mix of curio stalls or have a relaxing lunch at one of the restaurants.
Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve
Make use of day hikes or drives through the Umngeni Valley Nature Reserve in Howick. Some of the animals you may see include Zebra, Buck, and a wide variety of birds.
Karkloof Canopy Tour
For the young at heart, take yourselves on the Karkloof Canopy Tour. It is a unique eco-experience that takes people on a three hour adventure through the magnificent Karkloof indigenous forest. The canopy tour involves traversing from one platform to another along a steel cable suspended up to 30m above the forest floor. The tour comprises seven platforms and eight slides that zig-zag down a pristine forested valley. The scenery and birdlife is spectacular and professional guides provide interesting facts about the forest ecology during the tour
Midmar Dam
Go fishing or boating at Midmar dam and enjoy the wonderful natural reserve that surrounds the dam, where you can enjoy a large variety of water sports or just relax and have a braai with the family.
Midlands Meander
Take quiet drives though the well known interesting Arts and Crafts Midlands Meander. Amongst some of the most picturesque scenery South Africa has to offer. The Natal Midlands remains beautiful throughout all the seasons.
Day Trips
Take day trips to the Sani Pass situated in the Southern Drakensberg and visit the interesting local museum in Himeville or to Bergville which is situated in the Central Drakensberg and enjoy lovely mountain hikes inside the Nature Reserve and have lunch at the lovely local hotel.
Ithala Game Reserve
Go South and just 35 mins away and experience the excitement of Africa at the Ithala Game Reserve en route to Durban. Have lunch at their first class restaurant and either book a tour or take a drive around the game reserve in typical African terrain. View the White & Black Rhino, Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Buffalo, Wildebeest, Wide variety of Antelope and bird life.

From Johannesburg on the N3, pass the Midmar/Howick turn-off and take the next turn-off to Howick South / Underberg (Exit 99) and Southern Drakensberg. Turn right under the N3 onto the R617...*
From Pietermaritzburg
From Pietermaritzburg on the R103, pass Hilton and Cedara College and take the next turn-off to Howick South / Underberg and the Southern Drakensberg (Exit 99). Turn left towards Merrivale Heights onto the R617...*
*...Approx. 100m up the road (with Eskom on your right) turn left into Wilson Road (R103) which has signs indicating Birnamwood / Cedar. Proceed to the end of this road to the T-junction and turn right towards Birnam Wood. Proceed up the steep hill, 800m to the end of the tar and 1km on gravel. On the left you will notice a homestead amongst trees. D667 on the right. Pass these landmarks and take the turning to the left (stone pillar with BSW 12 Cedarwood) - proceed straight along the strip road, which takes you directly to the house.
