DESCRIPTION:
The town of Eshowe is one and a half hour drive North of Durban (which has an international airport). The city on a hill has a mild sub tropical climate making it an ideal year round holiday destination. This is a perfect stop over for travelers and business men alike.
Birds of Paradise enjoys the quiet surroundings of a magnificent park like garden adjoining the indigenous Dhlinza Forest. More than 35 species of Birds have been sighted in our garden. The Dhlinza forest spreads for 250 hectares and divides the town of Eshowe. There are magnificent walks in the Dhlinza and Entumeni forests.
Experience the unique Aerial Boardwalk in the Dhlinza Forest. Walk 125m along a wooden walk way 10m high, in the forest canopy, then climb to the 20m high observation platform with panoramic views overlooking magnificent forest giants.
Accommodation
This up market guest house, offers a private, secluded environment with a relaxed atmosphere.
The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated and are separate from the main house, each have there own entrance. There are 8 comfortable rooms and 2 self-catering rooms, all non-smoking. You can be assured of quality accommodation with comfortable beds, fitted with fine percale linen, fluffy towels and luxury amenities in the bathrooms. All rooms are en suite, with well stocked tea trays, DSTV, and fans and heaters are available for your comfort.
Facilities
Our property is securely fenced and walled with electric gates and there is plenty of secure off road parking. There are barbeque facilities, laundry facilities and baby sitting can be arranged. Our flood lit tennis court; trampoline and swimming pool are available for the young and energetic.
Breakfast and Dining
The private dinning room offers a great continental breakfast, with muffins, fruit and a selection of yogurts, and a full English breakfast. Dinners by prior arrangement. There is a deck off the dining room where you can relax and have a cup of tea or coffee.
Attractions in and around Eshowe
We are 800m from the Dhlinza Aerial board walk with its 20m high tower overlooking the canopy of trees. Within 5kms of sporting facilities like, bowls, squash, canoeing, fishing, gym, 18 hole golf course.
Eshowe is steeped in history with the Norwegian missionary museum - dating back to the mid 19th centuary, Fort Nongquayi. And the Vukani basket museum, well known for its selection of baskets. Shops, banks and post office are close by. There are restaurants and many take aways in the town.
Eshowe is on the Zululand birding route, and we are 15min away from Shakaland and its traditional Zulu dancing and food. Lake Phobane is 20mins away and well known for its bass fishing. |

DIRECTIONS:
FROM DURBAN
Take the N2 North, pass the Tugela River, continue until the DOKODWENI off-ramp to Eshowe / Ulundi / Melmoth - R66. Approximately 24kms to Eshowe along the R66. Turn left at SECOND entrance into Eshowe, at traffic lights with Siza (Total) service station on your right. Pass through next set of traffic lights, pass Pick and pay center on your left continue till Hospital. Hospital is on left and at this set of traffic lights, turn Right( you will see my ‘Birds of paradise” B&B sign to the right of these lights). Follow 4 of these signs to my home. No 49 Ulundi Street, third on the left - big wooden electric gates. Ring the intercom for assistance and then proceed straight to the top of driveway. The dogs are friendly and no need to be afraid.
FROM JOHANNESBURG VIA VRYHEID
Take the N3 South in the direction of Heidelberg.Approximately 40 kms before Warden turn off the highway onto the R34 to Vrede, Memel, Newcastle, Vryheid, Melmoth and onto the R66 towards Eshowe. Turn Right at the second turning to Eshowe, at traffic lights with the Siza (Total) service station on your left. Continue through the next set of traffic lights, and continue straight till you reach the Hospital on your left. At these traffic lights you will turn right and you will see my board to the right of the lights - Bids of Paradise B&B. Follow 4 of these boards to my home. No 49 Ulundi Street, third on the left. Big wooden electric gates with a white board, ring the intercom and then proceed to the top of the driveway. You will be met at the gate by dogs they are friendly so don’t be afraid.
