The Slow Mag Marathon and Half Marathon takes place in Benoni on the East Rand.

The lap course (one lap for the 21.1km race and two laps for the marathon) is run through the suburbs of Benoni and passes five lakes en route. The race, designed to show off the attractive sights of this East Rand town also circles a bird sanctuary (with buck and other small wildlife) and several parks.

The route is fairly flat with some long, gentle hills but is a reasonably easy run. The Slow Mag race is well organised and presented and has been voted as one of South Africas top ten marathons. There is a walkers category for the half marathon distance. Grand masters and blind runners enjoy free entry for this race.
