Created in the United Kingdom in 1951 by Eric Morley The Miss World pageant is the oldest surviving major international beauty pageant.
The winner spends a year travelling to represent the Miss World Organization and its various causes. To date the Miss World Organization has raised more than $250 million for children's charities around the globe.
Miss World is set to break new records in 2009 and a spectacular itinerary is currently being prepared for the 120 contestants from around the world who will represent their countries.
More information about the 2009 final in South Africa will be announced leading up to the final.
The 2009 pageant will be the seventh time that South Africa hosts the pageant. It was held at Sun City from 1992 to 1995, again in 2001 and in Sandton in 2008.
