I was born at the Lighthouse in 1954. My father, JF Hannabus, was an assistant keeper there with Mac Stewart then. We lived in the "left part" of the building below the tower.
My late brother is buried at Danger Point Lighthouse, near Gansbaai (1961)
Agulhas and its residents are great people. Each time I caravan there it's special.
My father drove off the road at Spookdraai late one night! I think he swerved for the "ghost"!
The most amazing holiday town. We loved the peace and quiet in Arniston. If you go then visit the De Mond Nature Reserve - beautiful! We did lots of fishing and cooking our freshly caught on the barbecue. Lazy days spent on the beach ... it was a fabulous time! Would definitely rtecommend to anyone who want a real getawy from it all.
This is a GREAT holiday destination if you just want to relax and enjoy beaches, long walks and chilling out. The village has charming restaurants and there is plenty to do, but mostly its about relaxing.
The greatest holiday ever! We did lots of fishing, hiking and braaing, the beach is awesome and we stayed in the fishermans cottages which were great. Really enjoyed ourselves - will definitely go again!!!
