Kosmos, Hartbeespoort Dam

Kosmos
The Hartbeespoort Dam

Once you've booked your Kosmos accommodation explore our pages for info on attractions and what to do in Kosmos.

Set on the banks of the popular Hartbeespoort Dam, the gorgeous little village of Kosmos that is indeed reminiscent of the Greek island of the same name when you consider its proximity to the water and the incredible weather in this part of the world, is a peaceful and quaint neighbourhood just 40 minutes drive from Johannesburg and 30 minutes from Pretoria.

Kosmos manages to dissociate itself from the rest of the neighbourhoods and suburbs around the dam, not only because of the security gates through which you must pass in order to enter the suburb, but because the village is set on a hillside, the mountains in the background, the water in the foreground. It is a quiet, leafy neighbourhood and the streets worth exploring, if only to gawp at some of the beautiful homes here.

There are myriad activities to pursue from Kosmos, should you be so inclined. Around Hartbeespoort Dam is a zoo and snake park, numerous restaurants and a cable car to the top of the Magaliesberg set on 150 hectares of indigenous bushveld, where not only an uninterrupted view of the dam and its surrounds awaits you but, should it be a day for it, numerous para-gliders and hang-gliders use the top from which to descend.

A little further afield are the De Wildt Cheetah Research Centre, Lesedi Cultural Village and the Cradle of Humankind.
