Carlswald, Midrand

Modern Carlswald lies in a valley almost midway between Johannesburg and Pretoria, undoubtedly in a prime part of Johannesburg. Midrand has fast become a business nucleus large enough to rival Sandton, minus the high rises, although Midrand has more of an industrial feel to it and lacks the glamour of Sandton. Despite this, close to 180 000 commuters wend their way to this part of the world on a daily basis.

Modern townhouse and simplex complexes as well as lifestyle estates have mushroomed here, and for people on business, Carlswald is probably one of the most trouble-free bases from which to access the rest of Johannesburg. The N1 is easily accessible from here, as are Kyalami Main Road, New Road and Grand Central Airport.

Carlswald is not only about business either. To the north, on a clear day, are sweeping views of the Magaliesberg, a reminder that life is not all work and no play. The Carlswald Lifestyle shopping centre, a new open mall style complex with a range of restaurants that spill out of doors encouraging outdoor living, has helped place Carlswald on the map, and has provided the much needed local shopping mall for residents.

Kyalami’s world famous race track is just around the corner from Carlswald for those who love racing, with a large exhibition venue. From Midrand, day outings to Hartbeespoort Dam and the Magaliesberg Mountains are very easy, or head off to the Cradle of Humankind to uncover some of mankind’s history.
