About Springfontein House
Springfontein House is ideally situated for travellers from Pretoria (650 kilometres) to Cape Town (870 kilometres) and the other holiday resorts of the Western and Eastern Cape Coast, and visa versa. Many travellers between Cape Town and Durban choose to travel on the N1 to Winburg and the N3.
Springfontein House is on the outskirts of town and as such is surrounded by veldt. Adding to the interest of the obviously well-loved property, is a bricked patio, captivating and colorful flower-beds abounding in the garden.
ACCOMMODATION
Springfontein House has five well-decorated en-suite bedrooms. All beds have electric blankets in winter. All bedrooms have full air conditioning, fans and TV's.
In the Green Room, adjacent to the front door, the pride of place is a queen-size bed with en-suite shower. The room has a delightful view of the front garden and verandah on which to sit and relax.
The Blue Room is similarly equipped with twin beds and en-suite bathroom with a shower. You enter the room from a verandah on the side of the main house and you look over a quiet rear garden.
The Pink Room, on the other hand, has a queen bed and an en-suite bath with a hand-held shower. Its entrance is at the back of this garden.This is the only room that can accommodate pets, as it has its own little garden which is fenced off.
In a charming garden cottage are our two other bedrooms: The Coral Room and the Yellow Room. Both rooms are large and both have full bathrooms, with baths and separate showers. The Coral Room has a queen-size bed and the Yellow Room has an extra length queen-size bed and 1 single bed.
The Coral, Yellow and Blue rooms are equipped with a fridge and microwave to warm meals with all the necessary crockery etc.
Pets
Please note, that pets are only welcome with prior arrangement in the Pink room and Coral Cottage.
ATTRACTIONS & ACTIVITIES
There are two very interesting Anglo-Boer war graveyards and memorials in town for the budding historian to explore. The largest British field Hospital in the Southern Free State was situated in Springfontein and that, together with an army base, meant that the area was very suitable for the creation of a Concentration Camp.
Above all, Springfontein is about the peace and quiet of the area and the most fantastic star lit skies.

We arrived on a VERY cold day in the middle of winter. Pieter was there to welcome us. The room was spotlessly clean, the borehole water provided was really delicious and the white towels were lovely and fluffy. The property is secure and well kept and we saw that there was a swimming pool on the other side of the property which would be a great thing to have in the summer months. The duvet was a summer duvet and Pieter give us four blankets. Sadly, the electric blanket was not on the bed as it wasn't working and the aircon seemed out of action too. There was a panel wall heater which provided some warmth but we were Very Very cold. Before bed, we had a hot shower - we were advised to shower in the evening as the pipes may well freeze over and the possibility of not having a shower in the morning was strong - put on a few layers of clothing and got into bed immediately. All in all, the place was clean and well kept, but definitely needs more heat during the winter (it was -3 degrees when we left this morning) but would be lovely during the summer.
