Punda Maria is situated in the Sandveld region which is often described as the botanical garden of the Kruger National Park. There are numerous plant species which occur that are unique to the area. Game species that are most likely to be sighted include impala, zebra, buffalo, elephant, eland, sable and various bird species.

The nearest reasonably large town with major road access is Louis Trichardt (150km). The nearest airport is Phalaborwa (200km) although this does not have many flights. OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg is a 550km/7 hour drive from Punda Maria.
