Shamwari Long Lee Manor is a highly recommended Eastern Cape game lodge providing a wildlife experience for discerning tourists visiting Frontier Country.
Shamwari Long Lee Manor is situated in the verdant bush along the Bushmans River, halfway between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown a pleasant drive from Cape Town, forming a natural extension to the famous Garden Route. Shamwari is about conserving a vanishing way of life.
Steeped in Pioneer history, and dating back to the time when a multitude of game roamed wild and free, the reserve boasts five eco-systems, thus enabling the support of many forms of plant, animal and bird life. This is the ultimate African adventure and conservation effort coupled with responsible tourism.
The original Manor House was originally built in 1910. Upstairs you will find the two Manor House Suites with balconies overlooking Shamwari. The newly renovated Long Lee Manor also has a further 4 Garden Rooms and 11 Plains rooms all with private terrace with views of the wide open plains teeming with wildlife. The contiguous accommodations also features a two bedroomed Family Suite with a private plunge pool.

Having attended a meeting in Cape Town it seemed a great idea to stay in a game reserve and try and see the wildlife. (Always a bit dependent on the animals!) I stayed at Shamwari and the staff were all helpful, generous and intent on making your stay a good one. The food and accommodation were fabulous and the drink was included and nobody took overly much advantage of this. On to the main part - The rangers were absolutely determined that we should see as many animals as possible. This started with impala and a rhinocerous wandering between our 'tents'. In the jeeps we saw so much in 3 days that it was just unbeleivable. Of course zebra, rhino, elephants and lions but also cheetah, cape buffalo, various and many antelope/gazelles of different types but also many birds. So many of the animals had young as well, which was delightful. The highlight had to be sitting about 2 yards away from a young male leopard - something many South Africans have not managed. The weather was mixed but we were never cold. The experience of a lifetime if you love wild life. Highly recommended and thank you all.

I was so impressed with everything - the suite I had which gave me magnificent views, to the comfort of the bed, the balconies to sit on, the unobtrusivenss of the staff irrespective of whether they were cleaners, waiters, managers. The game viewing was wonderful - the ranger was very knowledgeable and had the sharpest eyes ever. He listened to people and every question was answered in full. I have been to planty of game reserves but his knowledge was outsanding and I learnt new things about some of the wildlife. The food was out of this world - I am sure I put on 10kg in the time I stayed there. If you are not a fan of ice cream just wait until you try theirs - it is out of this world! The stay was so enjoyable so I booked an extra night and so stayed longer than originally intended. I have every intention of returning and sincerely hope I can once again stay at Long Lee Lodge. If you do not stay at Shamwari you will regret it for the rest of your life
