Sandstone Estates is a large working agricultural estate close to the Maluti Mountain Range in the Eastern Free State, offering scenic wide-open spaces, a large varied heritage collection ranging from tractors to classic cars to military vehicles and our 2ft narrow gauge railway collection.

Self Catering Accommodation

Sandstone Estates offers self-catering Ficksburg accommodation in Victorian Cottages and Railway Cottages.

The Victorian Cottages can sleep four in two twin bedded rooms and have a fully fitted self-catering kitchen and a single bathroom with shower.

Our Railway Cottages offer accommodation in twin bedded single rooms with a bathroom with shower. They are equipped with a bar fridge, cutlery and crockery and a microwave for self-catering. Braai facilities can also be arranged.

Experiences

As well as walking tours of the heritage collection we can offer bespoke steam train rides for groups on request. We also offer rides on a period Ox Wagon behind the world famous Sandstone Oxen as well as rides in military vehicles. These should be booked in advance. We offer loads of old fashioned rides and even a 26km-long private Railway System.

Accommodation was very good. Setting is amazing. But oh, the road to get there!!!! Between Ficksburg and Fouriesburg cannot be called a road! Such a pity cause I would go back to this venue anyway!

This is the place to go for all enthusiasts and lovers of all things vintage. We had an amazing time despite the wet weather. Mariette went the extra mile to make sure we had a fantastic stay. She's one of the best hostesses out there. The ox wagon ride was a highlight and seeing the steam train chuggy passed was a huge bonus. Thank you Sandstone for a memorable holiday.
