Review by Sean Cleary (Cape Town)

A group of us (6 in total) stayed at Mo & Rose for Christmas night. Overall the property was a lovely spot with exquisite indigenous gardens and some majestic cacti that have been on the property for decades.

A couple of our friends stayed in a deluxe room, which was nicely decorated and had a contemporary and upmarket appearance, while the standard room we were in felt a bit "sterile" and the cleanliness was somewhat lacking - there were numerous marks on the walls and one particular unidentifiable mark on the wall next to the bed that made me feel a bit squeamish. Our room also had a bad ant infestation in the bathroom with ants in the basins and crawling all over the countertop, which should have been attended to prior to our arrival.

There was a deluxe room next to our standard room that was unoccupied that night. I am always puzzled when an accommodation property will not upgrade a guest to a nicer room if they have availability. It creates the best first impression, return business and is a sign of good hospitality.

The restaurant has a contemporary look and is a wonderful venue to have a meal, as it looks onto the landscaped gardens. Sadly, the dinner we had that night was basic and unimaginative - the food was "okay" and the restaurant staff were friendly enough but could have been a more engaging.

I think we dealt with one of the owners of the guest house (Monika?) upon check-out, who was an absolute delight. We could sense the passion she has for the property.

This guest house has so much more potential and with just a little work on improvements in housekeeping and food prep, we would definitely return again.
