Lying barely north of Ceres on the R303, just below the Koue Bokkeveld Mountain Catchment area, the Boland town of Prince Alfred's Hamlet is just as it sounds - tiny, virtually devoid of any accommodation, quaint, remote and surrounded by mountains. Despite this, the town comes with a rather lavish town sign that stands atop a hand made stone wall, its name in capital letters against a ... cont.
From Cape Town International Airport:
1. Exit the airport precinct and follow the signs for the N2 Somerset West for about 3 km.
2. Take the R300 exit toward Bellville/Kuils River and stay on it for 15 km until you merge onto the N1 North.
3. Stay on the N1 for roughly 45 km, passing through the Winelands until you reach the R44 (Exit 47) for Wellington.
4. Turn left onto the R44 and drive for 25 km through Wellington, following the signs toward Hermon and Ceres.
5. Continue on the R44 for another 30 km past Gouda, then turn right onto the R46 to head through the Nuwekloof Pass.
6. Drive for 10 km through Mitchell's Pass into Ceres, continuing straight through the town toward Prince Alfred Hamlet on the R303.
7. Keep going through Prince Alfred Hamlet and head up the Gydo Pass for about 15 km.
8. Look for the Witzenberg Valley turn-off on your left about 7 km after you crest the pass.
9. Follow the Witzenberg Valley road (which becomes gravel) for approximately 18 km until you reach the Visgat Farm entrance at the end of the valley.
