We take pride in our exceptional location, just a stone’s throw from the world-renowned Addo Elephant National Park, one of Africa’s most successful conservation projects.
As the third-largest national park in South Africa, Addo is home to the iconic, mostly tuskless African elephant herds of the southernmost part of the continent. From Hitgeheim Country Lodge, guests can embark on unforgettable, in-house-arranged safaris into Addo Elephant National Park and experience the awe-inspiring sight of these gentle giants roaming freely in their natural habitat, often in impressive numbers.
But Addo is about far more than elephants. The park is also home to the unique disease-free African buffalo, elusive lions and a fascinating variety of other wildlife. Each species has its own story and history — stories that can only truly be appreciated by experiencing these remarkable animals in their natural environment, rather than simply reading about them in a guidebook.

Accommodation
Enjoy a relaxing stay in one of our 16 stylish, free-standing thatched chalets, each offering luxurious bathrooms and complete privacy. Selected chalets feature wooden decks and private splash pools, while all offer breathtaking views across the surrounding citrus orchards and countryside.
Wake up to the gentle melodies of chirping birds, accompanied by the majestic calls of fish eagles echoing from the flowing Sundays River below. Guests can enjoy leisurely walks through our scenic Eco-Reserve before cooling off in one of our two swimming pools.
Hitgeheim Country Lodge is thoughtfully divided into two sections to cater to different guest needs. Rooms 1–9 are situated in the Adults-Only Wing, offering a peaceful retreat for couples and solo travellers, complete with a dedicated swimming pool. Rooms 10–16 are located in the family-friendly wing, providing a comfortable and welcoming environment for guests travelling with children, with their own swimming pool for everyone to enjoy.

Experience the flavours of South Africa with our authentic dining experience. Begin your day with a continental breakfast buffet, complemented by a selection of freshly prepared cooked dishes.
In the evenings, enjoy a traditional South African braai and discover the diverse flavours of African tribal cuisine, including dishes occasionally enjoyed by Nelson Mandela.
Our elegant dining room and breakfast and barbecue deck provide a beautiful setting to enjoy your meals while taking in some of the finest views across the Addo area.

Safaris & Activities
Our open-top safari vehicle departs daily to Addo Elephant National Park daily. Accompany our guide for a personal game experience where you will be treated to a picnic style in the morning or opt for the afternoon drive with snacks and drinks while observing the behaviour of the unique Addo Elephants.
Arrange an exhilarating Elephant Back Safari, a visit to the Cheetah Breeding Sanctuary, Schotia Private Game Reserve or a full day safari at the close-by Pumba Private Game Reserve. Take a guided farm tour where you will be introduced to the African Buffalo breeding project and the ostrich and citrus farming activities. Or simply stroll through the natural surroundings and experience the indigenous antelope species at close range.
Location
Hitgeheim Country Lodge is situated close to the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape, South Africa and is approximately 60km from Port Elizabeth. It is the perfect country retreat as it is less than one hour's drive from Port Elizabeth. There is a landing strip and helicopter-pad situated on the property.
