Golden Gate Hotel is a classy and modern Clarens hotel decorated in an African seasons theme which is visible throughout the hotel and compliments the natural surroundings of the Park. A cocktail and coffee bar lounge enhances the top floor, while the lowest floor has a spot bar with an upbeat décor. The Masutsa restaurant allows guests to relax, enjoy exquisite cuisine and admire the view of the surrounding mountains.
Accommodation
Guests can stay in any of the rooms or chalets and experience the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding mountains and lush landscapes. Many of the rooms and chalets are north-facing, ensuring an all year sun-basking stay.
The rooms depicting the summer season are coated with a bright African sun yellow, while the winter rooms receive a white and blue combination, illustrating the snow-peaked mountains and blue dusky skies present in the Golden Gate winters. Spring is celebrated in brilliant blues and lush greens, and autumn takes its place in the warm orange, red and rich browns.
Three-quarters of the rooms are fitted with showers, and the rest have baths. The hotel is also fully compliant regarding universal accessibility for mobility challenged patrons.
The chalets are fitted with showers to freshen up and a fully equipped kitchen to ensure that you can dish a hearty meal. Each chalet also has its own "braai" area for those holiday around the camp fire meetings.

The beautifully decorated cocktail and coffee bar lounge of the Golden Gate Hotel has a spectacular view of the Brandwag rock and the very large windows ensures that your view remain unobstructed of this landmark also known as the buttress. The fire places along the side of the lounge will ensure that you keep warm and snug during the cold winter months whilst enjoying a hot cup of Milo or glass of Glühwein. Make sure that you visit the sports bar over the weekend to ensure you see your favourite sports team in action - from rugby to soccer we will help you in viewing that important game.
Dining
Breakfast is included for the hotel rooms while the chalets are self catering. The beautifully decorated restaurant of the Golden Gate Hotel has one of the most memorable views imaginable as the large windows face the golden Maluti Mountains. The chalet could have done with a clean - carpet was dirty and the teapot had old dried milk or something at the bottom from I don't know how many years back. Repairs to one of the shelfs in the bathroom was done with cheap perspex (to replace what had been glass). It's the small things that leave an unnecessary negative perception. One of the light bulbs was not working in the main lounge / bedroom area. The view was beautiful and the area is exquisite. We loved our hikes and the staff at the lodge were super friendly. So just fix the small stuff - it's not hard to get these little things right.
