About Elephant Walk Tented Camp

Elephant Walk Retreat enjoys a prime location on the banks of the Crocodile River, just a stone’s throw from the Crocodile Bridge Gate - the southernmost entrance to the iconic Kruger National Park. This land has been in the same family since the early 1970s, and today it offers a front-row seat to some of the most magnificent wildlife sightings in the region.

True to its name, guests often witness large herds of elephants traversing the ancient migratory paths that run along the river, right from the comfort of the lodge.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Elephant Walk Retreat is in deluxe tented stands, each thoughtfully appointed with a king-size bed, a fold-out sofa bed, and an en-suite bathroom complete with bathrobes. The units feature a sitting area, writing desk, and a private patio or terrace that opens onto uninterrupted views of the bush and the river beyond. Guests enjoy a fully inclusive experience, with dinner, bed and breakfast, and guided game drives forming part of the offering.

Begin your day with steaming coffee or tea and freshly baked pastries before setting out on an early morning safari. Upon return, indulge in a hearty brunch served on our open decks, featuring fresh and locally sourced ingredients. In the afternoon, enjoy a delightful selection of savoury and sweet treats with your tea before embarking on another thrilling game drive. As the day draws to a close, return to a beautifully laid-out dinner, illuminated by candles and hurricane lamps, offering a feast that nourishes both body and soul under the starlit African sky.

A large swimming pool and a communal relaxation area provide a welcoming space to unwind during the heat of the day - whether you’re enjoying a refreshing drink or simply soaking in the serenity with a good book. Free Wi-Fi is available in the public areas of the lodge, and a variety of activities are offered, including open vehicle safaris into Kruger, guided bush walks, bush dinners, fishing excursions, and cultural tours to Eswatini and Maputo.

Ideally located in Komatipoort, a small town where the Komati and Crocodile Rivers meet, Elephant Walk Retreat places you in the heart of South Africa’s Wild Frontier. With its sunny Lowveld climate, particularly mild in winter, and its position on the western slopes of the Lebombo Mountains, Komatipoort is more than just a convenient stopover.

It lies only 8 kilometres from the Crocodile Bridge Gate, 5 kilometres from the Mozambique border, and just 65 kilometres from the Swazi border, making it a perfect base for exploring the surrounding region and neighbouring countries.
