About Davenport House

Davenport House is a thatched double storey holiday home in Colchester, located on the premises of the Happy Jackal Guest House. Port Elizabeth and its airport is only half an hour away and in the opposite direction, the historic, university town of Grahamstown would take the traveller a mere 45 minutes. The Happy Jackal is therefore in the perfect position for a wealth of day trips.

Self Catering Accommodation

Davenport House has its own entrance and can accommodate six guests in three bedrooms.

The main bedroom is furnished with a King-size bed. There is a large landing at the top of the stairs where there are some chairs and a bedroom furnished with Queen-size bed which has a small balcony. The third private bedroom is furnished with a Queen-size bed and its own little balcony.

There are two shared bathrooms, upstairs is fitted with a shower, toilet and double basins. Downstairs is fitted with a bath, shower, toilet and basin.

The open plan living area has a fully equipped kitchen with Espresso machine and washing machine. The lounge area has a large satellite TV and FREE Wi-Fi. Outside is a private garden with a braai stand.

Guests have access to The Happy Jackal jetty and river bank.

Facilities & Local Activities

Game drives are offered to our own accommodation guests in our open game viewing vehicle, at an additional cost. A full day tour into Addo Elephant National Park, which the fee includes the park entrance fee, a light packed lunch and of course a great safari with our guide.

Addo Park, southern gate (Matyolweni), is a mere 2 minute drive from us.
Fishing is allowed from our own Jetty, providing you bring along all the necessary fishing licenses. Great fishing spots.

River Boat cruises at an additional fee. You can moor your own boat on our Jetty for free and enjoy the Sundays river. It is situated 50m from our main lodge. If you don't have a boat, then you could always book a river boat cruise and see the sand dunes and Sundays river with the most amazing sunsets. The sunset cruise which includes a dinner on the boat is the most popular.

Walk on the private beach (entrance fee) and is situated 5 minute drive from Happy Jackal. Here you would drive along the Sundays river and be astonished on how beautiful the sand dunes are. Some of them being the highest in Southern Africa. The beach is just stretches and stretches of beauty.
