Having stayed in this house two years ago I was very excited about spending another weekend here, especially to make use of the lovely deck with sea views for morning coffees and sundowners. Unfortunately we only found out that the deck was washed away a year ago only once we got there which was a huge disappointment since it was one of the highlights of this house. ( and this was unfortunately not mentioned on the website advertising the house) The house itself was spacious enough for our 4 families (with small kids) to sleep and spend time together. Although it was basically clean and obviously rustic as advertised, unfortunately the interior of the living area and some of the bedrooms now looked extremely run down since our last visit and a coat of paint on the walls ect and some new flooring and shower tiles (especially in Room 1 where we stayed and the paint was peeling off the floor) would be highly recommended. The chairs, stoep area, and boma cushions and cushion covers were also not very clean and one could see that they have been well used since our last visit. Wear and tear is fine but then the photos on the website should be altered to look the way the house currently looks and not the way it looked 2 years ago (which I expected looking at the photos) - there are even photos of rooms on the websites that are not even in the actual house??) These rustic surroundings would be usually fine if it was a bachelors weekend away, but we had many small children who were crawling around which made cleanliness an issue. The house keeping staff member was very friendly and helpful. Some suggestions: Some information on food that can be ordered at the Strandkombuis (restaurant right next to the Captains cabin) would be useful to have in the house/website so that future patrons can order take away pizzas ect from there when arriving late ect. Building some steps to go down to the beach where the deck used to be would be great to enable people to access the beach - we couldn't go down with the small children ect since it now only has a very steep incline. Still a location with potential and with some refurbishment it could well be a go to place again for us with families.
