We did not enjoy our stay at this guesthouse. I will start with what was positive: friendly staff, a beautiful view, renovated bathroom and a clean room. The positives stop here. On arrival, the staff member was ready with the card machine for payment but payment was done already. There should have been a record of this. The guesthouse needs serious maintenance, for example: There are cracked tiles everywhere outside, there are chipped furniture inside and outside, the door lock to our room was rusted and the door was chipped, the drawer of one bedside table was broken, the bathroom door did not close, the cupboard smelt like mould. The worst of the lack of maintenance was a very, very dirty and sticky remote control. I have photo's of all of the abovementioned should you need proof. Furthermore: there was no hairdryer, one pillow was covered in a winter pillow case of brushed cotton in the middle of the hottest month of the year, and the flat sheet was too small for the bed. The breakfast was mediocre. There was no filter coffee. I don't want to drink juice from a flute glass or a plastic wine glass in the morning. On the second morning there were no serviettes on our table. A note in the file states that you can walk to the beach from the car park. This may have been the case once upon a time but what seems to have been the path is now completely overgrown. The WORST part is the following, and I am quoting from the flip file in our room: "All Guest Houses love a 5 out of 5 Google Review or a 10 out of 10 booking.com review. We all strive for these reviews and they keep us and our staff motivated to deliver more than our best. Full mark reviews will be rewarded with a voucher than be be used during your next stay. Ask for your voucher during your next booking." This is corruption. One thing is sure: We will never be back and we will surely not recommend this guesthouse. On the contrary, if anybody asks us where to stay in East London, we will say: "Definitely not the Blue's".
