Addo Elephant National Park, the third largest wildlife reserve in South Africa, houses one of the largest populations of elephants on the continent and is home to the "Big Seven": elephant, lion, leopard, rhinoceros, buffalo, whale and white shark, the last two being found in maritime zones located close to the area.
Other important reserves nearby are Tsitsikamma Forest National Park; the coastal Tsitsikamma National Park; Mountain Zebra National Park. There are a number of activities nearby which include game drives, golf, horse riding, elephant rides, bungee jumping, bird watching from the Sasol Red Bishop Bird Hide, hiking the Eden to Addo Hike, archery, hot air balloon rides, beach walks, scuba diving, fishing and surfing.
What is loadshedding? It refers to the temporary suspension of electricity provided by Eskom, South Africa's electricity provider, to reduce consumption and thereby the load on the national grid. To compensate, South African property owners are turning to solar power, inverters with backup batteries or in some cases generators to keep the power on, wherever feasible.
