Bophirima, once known as Stellaland, is situated in the unadulterated splendour of the North West Province of South Africa. This part of the country is quiet, known for spectacularly serene landscapes and miles upon miles of gorgeous farmlands. T

In addition to these natural and historical attractions, the Bophirima area is acclaimed around the world for being the site of the discovery of the Taung Skull; a child’s skull believed by scientists to be some 2.5 million years old. This has come to be a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thanks to the value of this finding in terms of establishing Africa as the probable Cradle of Humankind.

Situated nearby to the actual site as which this skull was discovered are the Blue Pools. These are a beautiful collection of natural basins, streams and caves carved out of the ancient rock of the area, against the backdrop of a limestone waterfall that is quite breath-taking in its beauty. This is all nestled within the abundant limestone river valley that is home to an array of fauna and flora.

Such idyllic conditions continue to make Blue Pools one of the favourite spots at which to enjoy a picnic or braai with friends and family.
