About the Giant's Cup Trail Run

The Giant’s Cup Trail Run is not only an exciting sporting event, but also one of the most scenic, pretty events in South Africa. It takes place in the Maloti Drakensberg Transboundary World Heritage Site, which spans the borders of South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho. Although the race only takes place over two days, it is set on the Giant’s Cup Hiking Trail, which is a five-day trail.

The first day of the run extends for some 33 kilometres and will include days one to three of the hiking trail, finishing at Castleburn Farm. Runners will stay overnight at the Drakensberg Gardens Resort.

The second day comprises days four and five of the hike and spans 29 kilometres. Runners will finish at the Busman’s Nek Resort, where they will stay overnight and enjoy the awards dinner and all of the fun and festivities that are associated with it.

Each runner will be given a comfortable four-man tent with a mattress in which to stay overnight at the various locations, at which there are convenient ablutions facilities. Dinner and breakfast is provided by the hotels and lunch is provided at the finish of both days. If friends and family members would like to join the runners for dinner, these ones can be booked in when entering the event.

There is an abundance of plant- and animal life along the Giant’s Cup Trail Run. Participants should keep an eye out for elands, mountain rheedbucks, oribis, black-backed jackals, baboons, bearded vultures and black eagles.

Such events lure runners and their families from all over the world to test their skills and to experience the untainted splendour of South Africa.
