"Amongst the best in the world..” Woodall Country House & Spa.

We had booked Woodall based on reviews and on their website. The impression we had was of a country house set in the middle of nowhere, miles of open countryside all around. Driving to Woodall from Port Elizabeth was just that - a meandering road in the middle of nowhere. Arriving at the house, we found it surrounded by citrus trees, the house itself in an oasis of green lawns surrounded by flowers, a pool beside a small waterfall and an overall impression of calm. And the highlight - a deck area overlooking a small lake, filled with ducks, swans and waterbirds, and surrounded by reeds that acted as home for smaller multicoloured birds. This deck area also houses the restaurant, which opens out to the lake. Eating in such a location would be anough in itself, but the food at Woodall matched the overall quality of the place. The location can only be described as spectacular.

Our accomodation was an upstairs suite, with living room, large bedroom and large ensuite bathroom. We also had a small patio area. Everything was in immaculate condition, from the rooms to the lawns. You could see the hand of the owners everywhere, the personal touches that make the difference. Small things like an unexpected sorbet appearing at the pool on a hot afternoon, an immediate loan of the owners phone charger when mine broke down, jugs of iced homemade lemonade always in reception. The staff were the friendliest and most helpful encountered anywhere in SA. In summary, if there was one place that would bring us back to SA, Woodall would be that place.

And the final touch - a message on our arrival back home hoping our journey had been pleasant and hoping we had enjoyed our stay. A nice final touch.

We booked the game package direct with the hotel and it was really good value considering the quality of service and accommodation. It is just ten minutes drive from the Addo Elephant Park, which is a must do. It is better to go with the park drives or with Connor from the hotel as you will see more and learn more about the animals and birds.

Our room was fantastic with a huge panoramic window looking onto the garden with all sorts of exotic birds nesting outside. The outside showers were a novel and refreshing way to start the day.

All our meals from breakfast to the six course dinners were delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were friendly and helpful and the attention to detail was amazing. All in all, a real highlight of our holiday.

We stayed here a couple of nights, due to its proximity to Addo Elephant park ... Well ! what an amazing find ! Based on a citrus farm Woodall is in a sublime position.

Brilliantly decorated rooms with fantastic facilities - we stayed here with our 2 young kids and everything had been thought of for us in advance. What amazing attention to detail - wonderful food, fantastic wine list, beautiful restaurant setting. We particularly enjoyed the pre dinner canapes and drinks on the veranda - beautiful !

we could have gladly stayed here for a week. oh and its got a fab spa with great staff - even my 7 year old son had a massage !!!

Woodall is a great find and at the moment, a great secret !!! - go there now while you can !!!
