About Wolfkop Camp Accommodation
About 1 ¾ hours drive from Cape Town, 20 km from Citrusdal village, the 100ha Grootfontein farm with its camp area is situated in the valley on the banks of the Oliphants river. The farm is a working Citrus, Buchu and Rooibos farm.
You can hire out the whole campsite if you would like to use it as a wedding venue or private party. We have big Bedouin tents, a dance floor, lights and also provide catering and DJ options.
Got no tent. Can't camp? No longer the case, intrepid budget traveller. With the arrival of Wolfkop Camping Accommodation, the hassle and logistics of a camping weekend is now a thing of the past. In fact, if the blurb, "You only bring food and clothes," is anything to go by, any preconceived idea you have about camping - leaking tents, missing poles and pegs, hard ground and sand fleas - is in for a serious shake up.
To set the scene, what we have here is a 100ha citrus-buchu-rooibos farm located about 20km from Citrusdal, with the campsite located right on the banks of the Olifants River - so we're not talking dodge municipal setting. We're talking wide open spaces, green grass, gorgeous sunsets, languid days filled with swimming, braaing and getting to know your neighbours.
Each 'camping village' (maximum six spread along a 200m stretch) comprises a 7.5/10 square Bedouin free form marquee with an excellent outlook over the water, and one to three (depending on group size) canvas tents pitched underneath and equipped with a 3/4 high density foam mattress, cotton percale bedding, blankets and towels. Then, there's a fully equipped kitchen area (check list provided), braai grid and utensils, chairs, tables, electric light, cooler box, etc, etc.
Furthermore, every village has its own power point and there are hammocks - lest you forget that camping is hard work. Ablutions (hot showers and flush toilets) are communal (sorry), so is the fridge for the frosties, freezer and microwave. Talk about roughing it in style.
Canoes / kayaks are all available for hire - but bring your own if you have. How this all translates into the real thing we're not sure as we haven't yet put Wolfkop to the test. Instead we surfed the cyber-ether and found the following: "This is definitely a luxury camping site, as they advertise! When they say, just bring your food and drinks they are right! The accommodation is comfortable and quite exclusive as the campsite is not packed at all compared to most other places."
Sorry no music allowed unless you book out the whole campsite.

The list of activities include a hiking trail and mountain bike hiring, fishing for Bass and Clanwilliam yellow tail (catch and release!!!) at the river or canoe hire. In town there is a golf course, Quad bike and paintball hire that can be done. The 8km hiking trail is highly recommended and truly amazing (booking essential and extra fee). It snakes all along a mountain stream to a small water fall and includes mind boggling rock formations, scenes of fynbos and sandstone mountains. Fishing are done at the river on catch and release basis – please bring own fishing rods.

The village hosts four annual events which include a golf event, mountain bike event, canoe marathon and a 4x4 weekend. Citrusdal is also the perfect base to explore the West Coast with famous open air restaurants and crayfish festival. Elandsbay (50min from Citrusdal) is rated the best left hand point break (surfing) in Africa, and Rockland’s (45min from Citrusdal) is rated the second best rock climbing spot (bouldering) in the world!
