About 1 ¾ hours drive from Cape Town, 20 km from Citrusdal village, the 100ha Grootfontein farm with its camp area is situated in the valley on the banks of the Oliphants river. The farm is a working Citrus, Buchu and Rooibos farm.

Camping accommodation


These camping villages have been created for the camper to experience camping without having to spend money on purchasing gear, setting it up and packing up again after a fun filled weekend. Our motto to camping at Wolfkop Camping Villages is “you only bring food and clothes”. A check list is provided once bookings are made.

Each camping village is situated on the grass on the banks of the river at a 1 km swim hole and offers panoramic views from your private village of the Oliphant River swim area which is accessible by gravel road. Each village consists of a 9x9m Bedouin freeform marquee with 1 - 3 canvas tents underneath with a fully equipped kitchen (check list provided), braai grid and equipment, chairs and table, electric light, cooler box, best quality canvas tents with single pocket blow up mattress, cotton percale bedding, blankets, towels and extra sleeping bags provided.

Each village also has its own electricity plug points and hammocks are also provided for that perfect siesta. We only allow a maximum of 24 people (max 6 individual villages on a 200m camp spot) for private bigger groups please advise size of group and budget. Music is not allowed (accept if whole campsite is booked out). Communal hot showers and flush toilets are available at the ablution facilities with fridge, freezer, ice machine and microwave also available.

The terrace under your marquee has a view over the swim hole which has an abundance of birds and is the perfect spot to have a siestas and Perfect for sundowners, with a braai fire crackling, or gazing at stars later on. Fresh ground coffee is included for you to enjoy while visiting us.

Coffee shop and Steak House


For your breakfast needs back in town (which can be added on the accommodation bill) we recommend the “Via The Grape Vine” coffee shop and for dinner we recommend “Die Sitrus” Steak House.

FAUNA AND FLoRA


We get a lot of feedback from visitors complimenting the abundance of early morning bird life. Over 100 bird species have been identified and include Fish Eagle, Secretary Birds, Herron, Sunbirds, Weaver Birds and early morning passage by V shaped flock of Egyptian Geese.

EXPERIENCES


Each village is pitched up and taken down after each visit and have been laid out to be independent from the other visitors for the perfect getaway. Visit us to unwind from city life and relax in your perfect spot to experience the unique setting of this camp spots tranquility and awesome silence from your own private camp village. Enjoy your breakfast outside while watching the kids swim or a drink in hand while watching the sun set. Then wait for the stars. Lanterns are provided, casting a warm and soft light to enjoy at the fireplace.

Activities


The list of activities include a hiking trail and mountain bike hiring, fishing for Bass and Clanwilliam yellow tail (catch and release!!!) at the river or canoe hire. In town there is a golf course, Quad bike and paintball hire that can be done. The 8km hiking trail is highly recommended and truly amazing (booking essential and extra fee). It snakes all along a mountain stream to a small water fall and includes mind boggling rock formations, scenes of fynbos and sandstone mountains. Fishing are done at the river on catch and release basis – please bring own fishing rods.

Village


Citrusdal (5km away) offers a lovely coffee shop, steak house, golf course, quad bikes and paintball activities. The village hosts four annual events which include a golf event, mountain bike event, canoe marathon and a 4x4 weekend. Citrusdal is also the perfect base to explore the West coast with famous open air restaurants and crayfish festival. Elandsbay (50min from Citursdal) is rated the best left hand point break (surfing) in Africa, and Rockland’s (45min from Citrusdal) is rated the second best rock climbing spot (bouldering) in the world!
