Review by: Lee Besnard, Durban (stayed: March 2010)
On entering Upton Hall, one gets the distinct feeling of a grand old Durban building loaded with character, warmth and charm. It’s rich colonial heritage has been fused with everything that is special about southern Africa like diamonds, our beaches, rural living and the desert to create beautifully themed rooms in which no expense has been spared and every detail carefully considered. We spent the night in the large Namibian Desert room which amongst many other features boasts a spectacular view of Durban’s brand new Moses Mabhida Stadium. Adding to the amazing décor, we were treated to a superb dinner and the service from the friendly staff during our stay was out of the top drawer. It truly felt like we had entered our own secret oasis and the daily pressures and stress associated with life in the city felt a million miles away!
