At the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountain Range, in the heart of the Little Karoo, lies the exclusive Swartberg Private Wildlife Estate. The estate borders the Swartberg Reserve, part of the Cape Floristic Region and a World Heritage Site. Guests can access this spectacular environment at the exclusive, self-catering Swartberg Private Game Lodge. The restored farmhouse retains the appeal of the Karoo Colonial style, whilst providing luxury, self-catering accommodation with every convenience.
The estate is home to a wide variety of large mammals including the rare Cape Mountain Zebra, Giraffe, Blue Wildebeest, Eland, Nyala, Lechwe, Kudu, Gemsbok, Springbuck and Impala.
Five en-suite bedrooms are available, made up with twin or king size beds. The rooms are beautifully appointed and draw inspiration from the endemic flora or fauna. Two rooms are extra-spacious with full bathrooms en-suite, whilst the other three have shower facilities en-suite.
All rooms are equipped with all linen and towels, swimming towels, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, personal safes, ceiling fans, luxury gowns and toiletries. Sleeper couches can provide easy additional bedding for children sharing with adults in the larger rooms, without impacting on their spaciousness.
A maximum of 12 guests are accommodated in the five rooms, however special arrangements may be made for additional accommodation.
The Lodge includes a comfortable lounge with satellite television and a well stocked library area, a spacious diningroom and a well equipped farm-style kitchen. Expansive patios provide the ideal location to enjoy the sunny days and take in the beautiful view of the mountains. A swimming pool provides relief on hot summer days.
Guests can make arrangements to have the use of a game drive vehicle for the duration of their stay to explore the predator-free environment. The area is ideal for walking, and for mountain biking.
Swartberg Private Game Lodge is situated 55 km north of Oudtshoorn, 35km from Calitzdorp, and only 23km off the popular Route 62 between Calitzdorp and Oudtshoorn.
The area affords many attractions, for those wishing to explore. Others will find that once at the Lodge, the offer of its natural environment provides more than enough for the senses, an opportunity to retreat, relax and rejuvenate the soul as only wide open African spaces can provide.
