Welcome to Sonstraal Guest House on SA-Venues.com, offering accommodation in Muizenberg, False Bay.
Although the surfers never stayed away, the numbers have tripled in the last couple of years. When the South Easter is blowing, the kite surfers are on the Sunrise Beach side as well with their huge kites.
Sonstraal Guesthouse has a unique location in Muizenberg with its fantastic view over the Vlei (lagoon), mountains and False Bay. You have only to cross the street and a two minutes walk through the wonderful fynbos brings you to the beach. At the back of the house there is a covered terrace and a braai (barbeque) area.
Credit cards accepted. Dutch spoken und ein wenig Deutsch.
Accommodation
Sonstraal Guesthouse is well known because of its charming and characteristic architecture from the 1930’s. There are still Art Deco elements in some bathrooms. The house kept its own style, which gives all spaces (especially the big dining room and lounge) a comfortable and cosy atmosphere.
As Sonstraal didn’t make huge renovations, the prices could be kept very reasonable. There are four rooms at the front with a communal balcony. The two corner rooms at the front with their own bathroom (bath and hand shower) are more spacious than the backrooms en suite (only shower).
In between the corner rooms there are two smaller rooms of which the bathroom is across the corridor. There are tea and coffee making facilities in every room/unit. In the lounge downstairs there is TV with DSTV.
Sonstraal also offers a self catering unit for two persons which can only be rented for a week or longer.
Breakfast
The entire house is reserved for the guests, the spacious kitchen included where guests can find everything to make complete dinners. There is a fridge, micro wave and oven beside crockery, cutlery, pots and pans. That’s why we also make breakfast optional and is not included in the room price.
Muizenberg
Children can have great fun at the big pool with water slide, miniature golf course, playing area on the beach edge in the village, but also the sea is very child-friendly because the water gets deeper only very gradually. Of course, you must not forget to bring your surf- or body board.
A very nice walk (not even half an hour) along the sea to St. James is another possibility (looking for shells between the rocks at surfers corner) and you could return over the Main Road, where there are small museums you could visit, like Rhodes Cottage and the Natal Labia Art Museum.
Muizenberg also has a train station, which takes you not only to the centre of Cape Town, but a train trip in the direction of Simons Town along the beach front is a beautiful one. To step out in Kalk Bay with its charming antique shops, restaurants and/or in Fish Hoek is another option. In the season you can also see the whales in the Bay. On Sundays there is a very nice flea market, only minutes walking away, near the beach.
We are only 5km from the 18 hole Westlake Golf Club.
A visit to Cape Point and the penguin colony in Simons' Town (Boulders Beach), the wine routes, Silvermine Nature Reserve, Chapmans Peak drive and Westlake Golf course are all recommended.
