About Oxbow Country Estate
Oxbow Country Estate has established itself in Gauteng as a highly sought-after wedding and special events venue, as well as a trout fly fishing haven. Oxbow Country Estate, set in the foothills of the Magaliesberg range, near Bronkhorstspruit Dam, is home to a unique river system with remarkable geographical phenomena known as oxbows.
Nurtured and improved in later years, these waters have now become a life source and haven to over 130 recorded species of birdlife, including abundant insect and aquatic species.
The waterways and wetlands are home to a variety of water fowl including the elusive Purple gallinule, Red-knobbed coots, Moorhens, Black crakes and the enchanting and feisty Little Grebes - otherwise known as Dabchicks. Giant, Pied, Half-collared and the magnificent Malachite Kingfishers can be seen hovering and diving on all the dams, and on a good day you might even be lucky enough to spot our visiting Fish Eagle or hear his telltale cry.
The gardens, lovingly landscaped over the years, further enhance the tranquillity you will experience when visiting this estate in the country.
Oxbow Country Estate offers superior accommodation in 10 stylishly decorated double / twin rooms all with full bathrooms en-suite. A decadent luxurious Honeymoon suite including spacious dressing facilities is available for both honeymooners and couples looking for a special getaway.
At Oxbow Country Estate, not only the fostering hands of Mother Nature are cherished, but also the expansive cookery skills of Chef extraordinaire Admire Marimbire. Admire believes in sourcing the freshest ingredients personally for his dishes. His slow roasting methods are evident in the menus he creates, allowing the individual flavours to steep in his creations. He has a flare for arranging flavours to suit any season and occasion.
Winter season guided Fly-fishing with optional Fly-rod and tackle hire. The Winter fly-fishing season opens between May and August every year. The dams are stocked with good quality, well-sized Rainbow and Brown Trout. Easy access to 2.5 km of river and dam frontage, as well as conveniently positioned wooden jetties make for easy retrieval of fish.
Well-constructed gravel pathways allow for ease of walking from dam to dam and conveniently positioned benches in this park like atmosphere are perfect for birdwatchers and those just looking to rejuvenate the soul.
Without exception, the entire staff team at Oxbow, led by owners Frank and Alison Lovell, is totally committed to making your visit exceptional.
