About Klaasvoogds Cottages
Klaasvoogds Cottages offers two charming, luxurious self-catering holiday cottages, both well-equipped for long stays.
The cottages lie in the beautiful Klaasvoogds Valley at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains. They are centrally located in the Robertson wine valley on Route 62, within easy reach of many places of interest. The nearest towns are Robertson and the quaint, Klein Karoo town of Montagu, which has to be one of the prettiest towns in South Africa with its mix of vineyards, orchards and beautiful heritage buildings.
For those who are “laid back” - enjoy lovely views of the vineyards and mountains from every window, and on chilly nights settle in with a book or a glass of lovely, local wine in front of the roaring fire. In summer - as the day cools - relax on the porch and watch the fiery sunset give way to a night sky sparkling with stars. Eat gorgeous food at SA’s finest, award-winning restaurants, including Fraai Uitzicht and Reubens. Taste wine at the more than 50 wine estates, and olives at Marbrin Farm, locally made cheese at Montagne Deli and delicious artisanal bread at Rambling Rose. Go for game drives and for river cruises or river rafting at the nearby Breede River. Try to spot some of the 250 species of birds in the area or at van Loveren’s birding route. And for the wildly energetic? Climb mountains, run or cycle along picturesque country roads, or exhaust yourselves with a number of activities.
Self Catering Accommodation
Both cottages are situated on a working wine farm, completely separated by vineyards and 90m apart.
The cottage is light and airy with views of the mountains and vineyards from every room. It has warm wooden floors, hand-made French shutters, sash windows, beautiful hand crafted furniture and lovely oil paintings. It has a spacious double bedroom and en-suite bathroom, a separate shower and open-plan living / dining room / kitchen area, garden, patio and porch.
It is ideally suited for a couple but can accommodate one more person. The couch in the lounge can be converted into a single bed.
There is a fireplace, electric heater, gas heater, air conditioner, washing machine, iron and ironing board, microwave, Satellite TV, a kettle braai and hairdryer.
The solar powered heritage cottage was built in 1894 by one TL Kriel and was the original homestead on the farm. We have recently renovated the derelict building, keeping the vernacular style and the charming old beams but adding contemporary features, such as large sash windows and wooden glass-paned doors which bring in the light and beautiful views. It has wooden floors, hand-made French shutters, sash windows, beautifully crafted wooden furniture and oil paintings.
It has two bedrooms, the main bedroom has a queen sized bed and the original ball and claw bath with a separate toilet, the second bedroom has two single beds with a big en-suite shower and a separate toilet. The living / dining room / kitchen area is open plan with a fireplace/wood stove.
The cottage has a big garden with a patio and porch with lovely views. Note the elongated stone, now serving as a bench under the tree, was used some 200 years ago as a farm corner post.
It is well equipped for long stays. We have good kitchen equipment, a fireplace, two gas heaters, two fans, a washing machine, microwave, Satellite TV, a CD player and a kettle braai.
Towels will be changed every three days, bed linen once a week and cleaning will be done once a week. There is also Satellite TV.
