Highlands Lodge Mountain Retreat is exactly what the name says. We are a small mountain retreat on the Garden Route in the Outeniqua Mountains, comprising of 16 free-standing log chalets.

We are situated on the road between George and Oudtshoorn, 20 km’s from George and 35 km from Oudtshoorn. We are set in a rural setting named Waboomskraal, amongst a farming community which cultivates hops, apples and pears (for the export market).

Accommodation


We have chalets sleeping two, four and six people. All chalets are free standing spacious log cabins with private entrances and have wooden decks overlooking the natural scenic surroundings and the Outeniqua Mountains. Eight of the chalets have fireplaces and all chalets have their own braai facilities. 14 of the 16 the log wood chalets are self catering, and these units are serviced daily.

2-Sleeper Chalets (not self catering)
Not suitable for self catering with a double bed, open living area, tea and coffee making facilities only, bathroom (shower and bath) and braai outside (no fire place).

Self Catering 2-Sleeper Chalets
One double bed, kitchen, separate lounge, (2 sleeper couches for kids no extra cost), fireplace, bathroom (shower) and braai outside.

Self Catering 4-Sleeper Chalets
With 2 bedrooms (one bedroom has double bed the other has 2 single beds), lounge, kitchen, bathroom (shower) fireplace, and braai outside.

Self-Catering 6-Sleeper Cottages
With 2 bedrooms (one bedroom with double bed, the other with 2 single beds and bunk bed), lounge, braai, bathroom (shower), no fireplace.

Facilities


The kitchens in the chalets are equipped with a fridge, 2 plate stove, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, cutlery and crockery. We provide all linen and towels. Wood can be purchased on site for fire places and braais. Our retreat can sleep 70 people and our restaurant can cater for up to 70 people.

We are also a family friendly establishment; ideal for families wanting to escape from the hustle and bustle of ordinary life in order to spend quality family time in a safe environment for the kids without any TV’s interrupting communications, and romantic escapes for leisure time for couples in front of wood fires in the chalets with a good bottle of red wine. The venue is ideal for short walks and picnics in the forest.

Catering


We provide on site catering services for groups of 20 and more (i.e. tour groups).

Conference Venue


Highlands Lodge Mountain Retreat is complemented by a small conference venue which seats 35 people U shape and 50 cinema style. A white board, flipchart, glasses and sweets are provided. An overhead projector and computers are available on request and at an extra charge. A two course buffet menu is offered as are tea and cakes or a finger lunch. Bottled water and soft drinks or fruit juices are also available.

Activities and Attractions


The lodge is set on a 475 hectare mountainous farm, covered with pine plantations, indigenous mountain fynbos and mountain rivers and fresh water springs. Ample space and gravel roads provide excellent hiking / mountain biking opportunities in a safe environment. We have a playground, jungle gym and swimming pool on the grounds.

Easy access to quad bike trails, local wine farm stores, tourist hop route, Outeniqua Choo Choo, delis and coffee shops, mountain trials, beaches, Montagu pass, ostrich farms, Cango Caves, strawberry picking farm. All in a radius of 30 kms.

Location


We are situated 25 km from the closest airport and air port transfers are available on request. We are 18 kms from the world famous Fancourt Golf Estate, and 25 kms to the closest beach, Herolds Bay. We are 40 km from the Cango caves and 7 km from the historic Montago Pass.
