Just the best!! We had booked into one of their standard rooms, but were given the Kingfisher suite instead!! Now that was so fantastic of them--just what we needed after mishaps in India!! Our stay with Judy and Charles has created such a memory and impression of South Africa for us. Their kindness, the incredible view from our room, the massive bathroom and a breakfast to die for!! We only wish that we could come back soon!! Perhaps one day..... |

THIS IS THE BEST GUESTHOUSE WE HAVE EVER STAYED AT IN SOUTH AFRICA.
My husband and I have just returned from a 3 week holiday in SA of which 5 wonderful nights were spent at Halcyon House. I can honestly say that of all the guest houses that we have ever visited in SA (this was our 2nd trip) Halcyon is by far the best. The décor, comfort and hospitality are second to none and a lot of thought has gone into making sure that every tiny detail is catered for to ensure that all your needs are fully met. The beautiful beach is only a few minutes walk away (Charles will supply a free beach bag with towels, water and an umbrella) and the main town is about a 4 minute drive away, you can walk but it’s up a fairly steep hill, we didn’t find this a problem at all.
We booked the Nautilus Rooms which were very comfortable and tastefully decorated but I also had a peep in the Kingfisher Suite and this is out of this world, absolute luxury! Our host was Charles (Judy, his mother, was away at the time) who made us feel so very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. He cooks the most delicious and absolutely huge breakfasts, I would defy anyone to be hungry after eating one. We also purchased one of Charles’ picnics to take out one day and it was fit for a king, fantastic value for money and once again far more than we could eat, as was the braii that we also partook of on our last night. Charles himself is a lovely person, very warm and hospitable, he made us feel so much at home . He’s a bit of a character and we had some good laughs with him, so much so that one night whilst stopping for our complementary drink before going out to dinner we ‘forgot the time’ and ended up having to send out for a pizza as all the restaurants were then closed!
Overall I really don’t think there is anything I can put down in words that will do justice to Charles and his wonderful establishment other than to say I would urge anyone looking for a first class guesthouse in Plettenberg Bay to pick Halcyon House (if it’s available book the Kingfisher Suite - pure luxury). You most definitely will not be disappointed.
Charles if you are reading this thanks for a wonderful stay. Love to you, Judy and Gloria, we’ll hopefully see you again next year, that’s if you’ll have us! Keep up the good work with the Frog Chorus!! All the best, miss you heaps, Deb and Tony. |
